THE ACS DEPARTMENT AND POSITION… Under the supervision of the VP of Clinical Services, the A29i Core Clinician will provide individual and family therapy within a trauma-informed, socioecological approach to behavioral health. The A29i Core Clinician will engage youth in foster care in an initial mental health assessment and lead the multidisciplinary treatment team in developing an A29i Core Treatment Plan that will highlight the goals for each discipline. The mental health goals will include both individual and system objectives to help the youth enhance their abilities and well-being at home and within the community. The Core Clinician will conceptualize a youth’s presenting problems from a cognitive-behavioral, family systems, or alternative theoretical understanding of behavior and incorporate a trauma-informed, socioecological approach to behavioral health. Goals and objectives developed in the treatment plan will be grounded in The Attachment, Regulation, and Competency Model, while interventions may vary from Motivational Interviewing, CBT, creative arts, interpersonal, etc. How you get to use your skills…

  • Provide at least two family therapy sessions (at least one, in-person) monthly with youth and/or foster family. Individual therapy sessions, as indicated, may be scheduled weekly or bi-weekly

  • Carry a caseload of up to 25 youth, ages range from 0-21 years

  • Write progress notes within three business days the session was held and one monthly progress note entered into EHR system

  • Complete Initial Mental Health Assessment within 30 days of admission to foster care and annually

  • Complete Core Treatment Plan within 30 days of admission to foster care

  • Lead initial Treatment Team Meeting (within 45 days of admission) and quarterly (for youth who are considered therapeutic level), bi-annually (for youth who are not considered therapeutic level) and monthly for youth labeled “high risk” (danger of harming themselves or others).

  • Collaborate with case planners on creating court reports

  • Provide therapy during traditional and non-traditional hours including weekends and evenings

  • Participate in 24 hour on-call phone availability for program youth and foster parents

  • Attend weekly clinical team meetings, staffing meetings, group therapy sessions

  • Provide record keeping and documentation for all clinical activities (case documentation)

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Schedule: Exempt

  • Regular hours entail Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, must be flexible to meet program needs

  • Must be available to work afternoons, evenings, holiday, and weekends as required

  • On-call required

Experience and Skills:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Mental Health, Marriage and Family Therapy or Creative Arts Therapy

  • License in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy OR a limited permit in one of the above

  • A license is required to be obtained by the termination date of the limited permit OR

  • The limited permit needs to be renewed before the expiration date

  • A license is required to be obtained by the time the clinician exhausts the opportunities to renew the limited permit

  • Experience working with children and families in a community-based or “in-home” setting

  • Experience with the foster care system, specifically with foster parents and youth preferred

  • Excellent communication, organizational and collaboration skills

  • A strong belief in the capacity of people to grow and change

  • Possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude needed to appreciate and encourage diversity, and understand the concept of cultural trauma as it applies to individual and family functioning

  • Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred

  • Ability to travel to other agency locations

Physical Requirements:

  • Computer work requires sitting at a desk for long periods of time

  • Time on your feet for up to several hours a day

  • Lifting up to 50 pounds

  • Travel within the 5 boroughs
