Position Summary | The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.The Museum's Youth Initiatives (YI) division, with the department of Education, is seeking a part-time Animal Care Assistant to play a supporting role in maintaining the health and safety of a collection of roughly 60 live animal habitats. The habitats span a wide range of taxa used within the programs and spaces of the Children and Family Learning (CFL) department. The Assistant is responsible for basic cleaning of habitats, feeding, preparation of diets and documentation of care. They may additionally be asked to assist in the design/construction of new enclosures. The Assistant will also participate in the development/delivery of live animal demonstrations for visitors and families in CFL programs, as well as work with the Animal Husbandry Specialist to provide staff training in animal handling and demonstration methods for educators, volunteers and interns.Job duties include:
The expected salary for the Animal Care Assistant is $20.00/hour. This position is overtime-eligible.Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience. |
