JPMorgan Chase Asset Management - Debt Tax Controller - Vice President in New York, New York
As a Tax Vice President in the Real Estate Investment Group you will assist the Head of Tax in leading the tax team and work closely with an experienced group of professionals while overseeing all aspects of real estate taxation and reporting.
Job Summary
As a Tax Vice President in the Real Estate Investment Group, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of experienced professionals, oversee all aspects of real estate taxation and reporting, and work closely with the Head of Tax. This role provides a unique opportunity to manage and influence the tax functions of our commercial mortgage loan platform, ensuring compliance and maximizing tax efficiencies.
Job Responsibilities
Oversee and manage the tax functions of commercial mortgage loan platform for open-ended and closed-ended funds and separate accounts.
Evaluate the tax implications of debt refinancing and restructuring, including significant debt modifications and cancellation of debt income inclusions.
Supervising tax matters on the establishment of funds, feeder entities, holding companies, etc.
Work with the acquisitions team and advising on most advantageous company structures to maximize tax efficiencies.
Perform tax modeling for new/existing funds, acquisition/dispositions, internal financings and profit repatriation.
Ensure timely and accurate filing of federal and state tax filing for all vehicles and K-1 reporting to investors.
Ensuring compliance with REIT-specific tax requirements, including maintaining compliance with REIT income and asset tests.
Coordinating with external tax advisors for the preparation of quarterly investor income tax forecasts, estimated income tax payments, tax withholding on distributions, and implementation and oversight of various tax matters.
Research, analyze, document and support tax positions for audit requirements.
Manage and review the quarterly tax provision prepared by the external advisors.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills
Bachelor's degree with major in Accounting
Detailed technical tax knowledge of corporate tax, especially real estate and real estate funds, REITs and associated areas
Proficiency in partnership tax, REITs, UBTI, acquisition & disposition structuring. Familiarity with taxes on international client base, and with investors' tax positions in other countries
Experience reviewing partnership / JV agreements requirements
Expertise in Commingled Funds, Real Estate limited partnerships, Joint Ventures, Separate Accounts, Real Estate Opportunity Funds, and Real Estate Operating Company Investments
Current knowledge on industry tax trends and issues. Coordinate with external tax advisors to assess new tax legislation and provide guidance
Experience with carried interest plans and related tax structuring
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills
- MS in taxation or CPA preferred
