Assistant Director of Student Veteran Support/ CUNY LEADS Job Developer

POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, this position provides students in the CUNY LEADS (Linking Employment Academics and Disability Services)program with advice and support to make academic and career choices that lead to successful employment outcomes. Additionally, this position provides advice, support, outreach, and programming for student veterans.

Specific duties include:

· Serve as single point of contact to student veterans as well as perform the role of advisor, counselor, supporter of student veterans through educational workshops, orientation programs, and ease of access to academic services

· Evaluate the needs of student veterans and develop a range of appropriate student services to support them

· Recruit CUNY students into the LEADS program based on established criteria

· Work with community agencies and Baruch College administration to increase the visibility and effectiveness of military and veteran related holidays and special occasions

· Conduct group workshops and provide individualized advice on career skills such as resume writing, interview preparation, advocacy, and disclosure issues

· Advise students on job readiness and placement, and on linking academic programs to short and long term career goals

· Promote campus-wide military cultural competency and streamline the student veterans introduction to college

· Encourage and support the development and implementation of on and off campus programs that enhance student veterans retention and graduation

· Coordinate services with other college units including disability and career services offices

· Lead First Year Seminar

· Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required; Master's degree and experience working in academic, career advisement or job placement functions with students with disabilities preferred.Experience programming and supporting student veterans preferred. Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; should demonstrate proficiency in computer and database skills. Prefer experience serving individuals from cross-disability backgrounds and knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other key disability legislation.

  • Recruits CUNY students into the LEADS program based on established criteria

  • Coordinates services with other college units including disability and career services offices

  • Coordinates services with outside agencies as needed

  • Advises students on job readiness and placement, and on linking academic programs to short- and long-term career goals

  • Conducts group workshops and provides individualized advice on career skills such as resume writing, interview preparation, advocacy, and disclosure issues

  • Develops internship and mentoring opportunities and makes student placements

  • Records contacts and activities in CUNY's "Efforts to Outcomes" database

  • Applies knowledge of issues and developments in disability-related law (such as the A.D.A.) and in disability advocacy

  • Collaborates with other LEADS professionals on University-wide communications and initiatives

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$52,267 - $68,004 ;Salary commensurate with experience.
