  • Salary Range: $100,000 - $115,000
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of Data and Analytics at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), the Associate Director of Data Operations works across units to ensure optimal data systems support is provided, analyzes data-related operations to assess performance, and provides program performance and competitor landscape analysis to enable senior leaders to make informed data-driven decisions about program investments and new areas of development.

Responsibilities

Data Operations Management

  • Responsible for managing a data literacy program to foster a data-driven culture across all units at SIPA.
  • Create and disseminate data analysis and reporting training materials across the organization to ensure all staff understand and use data effectively.
  • Translate business requirements into specifications used to implement required reports and dashboards, created from multiple data sources.
  • Manage, develop, and maintain reports and various data-driven processes and applications for analysis that are derived from information systems and requests made by senior leadership.

Reporting Analytics & Business Intelligence

  • Responsible for data mining, research, and presenting information to the Executive Director and senior leadership to inform strategic goals and objectives around school-wide operations.
  • Explore and interpret market share analysis based on researched data insight, maintaining close working relationships with key partners in Academic and Student Affairs, to ensure that divisions are closely aligned.
  • Manage ongoing competitor analysis to service the needs of SIPA. Develop marketing research capabilities via use of primary research.
  • Work with both internal and external data and provide insight by looking at trends and patterns which help support the SIPA strategy, ensuring new untapped opportunities can be capitalized on across the changing global market landscape.

Perform other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience.
  • 4-6 years of related experience.
  • Strong proficiency in developing clear and impactful communications tailored for presentation to senior leadership at the school level.
  • Must be adept at preparing and presenting data in a manner that engages and informs audiences not familiar with data analysis.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is essential; ability to manage multiple priorities with poise and discretion in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Background in data technologies and analytics, including SQL, and Power BI/Tableau.
  • Project management experience.
  • Excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with statistical analysis tools such as Python, Stata, or R.
