Job Description

Social Worker II – The David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care (E. 74thStreet)

Join us at MSK! We are seeking to hire aClinical Social Worker II atThe David H. Koch Center for Cancer Carein NYC to help and to deliver comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessment and follow-up to adult patients and families in response to social, psychological, and environmental needs related to the impact of diagnosis, admission, treatment, discharge, continued care and post-treatment.

Role Overview:

  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments with patients and families prior to bone marrow transplant to assess their readiness for transplant and to assist with adjustment to the treatment plan.

  • Provide clinical interventions and modification of the psychosocial plan, ongoing clinical assessments, advocacy, and assistance with resources for patients and their families.

  • Collaborate with an interprofessional team to address ongoing patient needs.

  • Assist patients/families in accessing appropriate psychosocial services along the continuum of care.

  • Handle sensitive patient issues immediately and consult with Director to obtain guidance and ensure that NYS regulations are followed.

  • Identify the unique needs of assigned service; develop and implement appropriate interventions and programs.

  • Produce quality documentation in the medical record and all written correspondence; and prepare Philanthropic Budget Sheets and other departmental-related documentation.

  • Train and orient new employees to the department.

  • Conduct the performance appraisal process per MSKCC and departmental guidelines within time frames.

  • Participate in consultation, teaching, and research; and contribute to the social work/oncology literature.

  • Intervene with young adults with breast cancer.

    Key Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Social Work and NY-LCSW.

  • At least 3 year of post master’s work experience in a hospital.

    Core Skills:

  • Strong clinical skills with individuals, families, and groups are essential.

  • Experience in oncology and/or palliative care in a hospital setting.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

    Additional Information:

  • Location: The David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care, 530 E. 74th Street in NYC

  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5 pm

  • Reporting to the Manager, Social Work

    Pay Range: $80,300 - $128,400/annually
