Citigroup Cloud Data Engineering Manager - Director in New York, New York

We are seeking a visionary and dynamic Cloud Data Engineering Manager to spearhead the development of a cutting-edge data platform dedicated to risk and controls within our esteemed financial institution. This pioneering platform will be meticulously crafted on-premises, yet designed with a forward-thinking approach to be cloud-ready, allowing for seamless component-by-component migration to the cloud in future. Our goal is to establish a platform that is not only scalable, sustainable, and swift to market, secure and stable but also architecture must feature loosely coupled primary layers of compute, storage, and metadata to ensure optimal flexibility and performance.

The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in building sophisticated data warehouses, data lakes, and lakehouse systems, coupled with a proven track record in expanding state-of-the-art analytical and self-service data platforms. With an overarching hybrid cross-platform architecture, this individual will enable advanced data virtualization, federation, and visualization, ensuring our data infrastructure remains at the forefront of innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Vision: Lead the design, development, and deployment of a state-of-the-art data platform for risk and controls, ensuring the architecture is scalable, sustainable, secure, and stable.

  • Hybrid Architecture Development: Strategically develop the platform on-premises with the capability to seamlessly port components to the cloud, ensuring a hybrid architecture that supports both environments.

  • Architectural Excellence: Ensure the platform’s compute, storage, and meta layers are loosely coupled, enabling flexibility and modularity.

  • Data Systems Mastery: Oversee the construction and enhancement of data warehouses, data lakes, and lakehouse systems, pushing the boundaries of advanced analytical and self-service data platforms.

  • Innovative Solutions: Drive the enablement of data virtualization, federation, and visualization, providing stakeholders with innovative and actionable insights.

  • Strategic Interface: Interface with various stakeholders to define and align the strategic direction of the platform with business objectives, maintaining continuous awareness of business, technical, and infrastructure issues.

  • Data Mesh Product Development: Lead the development of a data mesh product for the controls data repository, ensuring seamless integration and scalability.

  • Expansion to Other Data Domains: Expand the scope to other data domains within Functions Technology, aiming to build a unified data ecosystem. This ecosystem will connect distributed authoritative data sources into a centralized, cohesive data repository.

  • Performance Management: Evaluate subordinate performance and make informed recommendations regarding pay increases, promotions, terminations, and other personnel actions, fostering a high-performance team environment.

  • Vendor Collaboration: Engage with vendors to assess and influence their technology roadmaps, ensuring alignment with our strategic goals and requirements.

  • Risk and Compliance: Exercise evaluative judgment to assess risk, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. Promote a culture of transparency and accountability within the team.

  • Cross-Functional Influence: Influence and negotiate with senior leaders across various functions, and communicate effectively with external parties as necessary.

  • Additional Duties: Perform other job-related duties and functions as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 15+ years of relevant managerial experience, with at least 10 years in senior technology leadership roles within development/engineering and architecture capacities.

  • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience in building and managing data warehouses, lakes, and Lakehouse systems, with a deep understanding of hybrid cross-platform architectures.

  • Cloud and Security Proficiency: Proven experience with cloud security protocols, cloud transformation, and developing systems that span both on-premises and cloud platforms.

  • Analytical Excellence: Advanced knowledge and practical experience in data virtualization, federation, and visualization.

  • Industry Knowledge: Experience within financial services or similarly complex environments, with the ability to manage global teams effectively.

  • Strategic Insight: Advanced understanding of strategic direction within the relevant part of the business, with demonstrated ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Leadership and Development: Proven leadership, management, and development skills, with a track record of building high-performance teams.

  • Technical Skills: Proficient data engineering, architecture, management, platform and business intelligence, and data applications.

Education:

Academic Credentials: Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience, with advanced degrees and relevant certifications being highly desirable.

$170,000.00 - $300,000.00
