Title: Director, Development Operations (Fundraising Administration)

Reports To: Assistant Vice President, Development Operations

The Position

The Hospital for Special Surgery Foundation is seeking a motivated and solutions-oriented Director, Development Operations & Administration to lead financial strategies and operational improvements. This pivotal role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance enterprise-wide systems and processes and ensuring accurate financial reporting and fund management. The Director will provide leadership in budgeting, financial analysis, and management of related data while contributing to Development Operations’ strategic initiatives. The Director will partner with Operations Team members to increase the use of the technology through training and defining procedures and policies.

This position will supervise the Manager, Foundation Finance and report to the Assistant Vice President, Development Operations. This position may work remotely up to two days a week; however, must be flexible based upon the business needs of the department.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight:

  • Collaborate with Foundation Finance, Gift Administration, Research Administration and HSS Finance to deliver accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in endowment management, reporting, and gift fund management.

  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to drive system and process improvements impacting gift fund financial reporting and management.

  • Develop and manage the Foundation’s operating budget, providing insightful analysis and reporting to senior leadership and department managers.

  • Ensure audit compliance for gift processing and fund management, including financial reporting for 990 and State Charity Registration.

    Development Operations:

  • Leads within the Operations Team to identify challenges and opportunities that can be addressed to improve services, increase technology adoption, and monitor data quality for internal stakeholders. Seeks continuous improvement, increasing efficiencies, improving system integration, and recommending and implementing innovative uses of technology.

  • Develop and implement data quality standards and internal financial controls that follow industry best practices. Support department wide initiatives related to data governance and documentation and serve as a leader in the communication of changes to policy and procedures.

  • Assist in drafting and reviewing gift agreements to ensure HSS has the appropriate flexibility and can meet the terms. Direct Gift Administration and Foundation Finance for the recording and execution of the gift agreements. The Director oversees the tracking and processing of planned gifts and interfaces with estate representatives as needed.

  • Support preparation and oversee quality control on internal and external reporting related to fundraising including annual tracking, projections, benchmarking, industry surveys, and new major gifts.

  • Leads in the establishment of financial data infrastructure and process to support new initiatives, campaigns, and helps maintain quality control on historic revenue data.

  • Establish and conduct training related to budget processes and management, departmental financial processes, gift agreements, fund management, Raiser’s Edge NXT, and reporting.

  • Establish and oversee policies for maintaining donor and fund information and ensuring compliance with audit requirements and departmental reporting.

  • Oversee the donor recognition program in partnership with the Fundraising Strategy team, including vendor coordination, donor approvals, and physical installation. Supporting the office in the organization and allocation of naming opportunities in Gift Map. Provide end user support and training for Gift Map.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in development operations or nonprofit financial management preferably in an academic medical center or healthcare enterprise.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Advanced degree preferred.

    Competencies and Personal Characteristics

  • Strong understanding of financial and accounting principles, with experience in financial planning and reporting.

  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans, manage projects, and support senior-level administrators.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to engage effectively with donors, colleagues, and senior management.

  • Proficiency in financial, marketing, fundraising, and informational databases and IT systems, including MS Office, Workday and Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce.

Pay Range - Minimum

USD $125,000.00/Yr.

Pay Range - Maximum

USD $150,000.00/Yr.
