Job Description:

The Liquidity Risk Technology group at TD Securities is seeking a business facing technical leader at the Director level, to build the next generation of risk computation platforms. The core mission of the applications we build is to help the firm quantify, understand, and reduce our external total exposure in case of adverse market conditions. We operate within a modern and complex area of finance, operating with sophisticated computational models, supporting billions of calculations daily and leveraging Big Data storage for analytics and data distribution.

Responsibilities:

Working closely with our business partners across trading, finance and risk management the successful candidate will own the following responsibilities:

  • Architect our risk applications in line with microservices patterns, distributed caching, and stream processing with a view to scale to hundreds of billions of computations daily

  • Manage a team of 5+ Developers working primarily in Java

  • Develop an organization supporting the growth plans for the Front-Office as well as aligning with Risk Management and Finance risk, control and regulatory reporting requirements

  • Develop and execute on a large-scale Data strategy for the group (including ingestion, reporting and dashboarding)

  • Develop tooling and processes to enhance the efficiency of the team

The successful candidate should also demonstrate a strong affinity with the following:

  • Work collaboratively with technical and non-technical teams at TD to solve business and technology challenges

  • Provide technical leadership to the group and beyond, adopt a scalability and stability-first approach to design and implementation

  • Adopt a client-centric approach in support of our business growth models

  • Leverage industry standard DevOps practices and tooling for CI/CD, TDD and build tools

Technical Skills

  • 10+ years of technical leadership experience with direct people management responsibilities

  • Demonstrable architecture experience, with a focus on the design of large-scale distributed risk engines (liquidity risk, market risk or counterparty credit risk)

  • Demonstrable experience managing teams developing components in Java

  • Experience of NoSQL databases, Hadoop, distributed caching (Redis preferable), Big Data streaming technologies (Flink, Kafka Streams, Spring Cloud Stream), experience with RDBMS packages, demonstrable fluency in SQL, messaging (Kafka)

  • Experience of Azure (preferable) or AWS, Google Cloud

  • Experience of git, CI/CD toolset (Maven, Gradle), Jenkins, working within an Agile environment

  • Knowledge of the following would be a plus: Scala, Angular, React, Excel integration, ELK, TypeScript

Non-Technical Skills

  • Experience in working within a global team

  • Strong communication skills

  • Demonstrable experience working in a fast-paced environment, and supportive of flexible goals aligned with business priorities

  • Demonstrable track record in delivering for the stakeholders within a Capital Markets setting

  • Knowledge of derivatives pricing and capital markets is a strong plus

The Director - Tech Solutions TDS Management builds and maintains strong business relationship with assigned clients / internal partners and provides direction and guidance on optimal technology solutions/services to meet business needs. The position generally manages a varied team of IT professionals and bridges the gap between the business and technology, and leverages resources across functional or specialized technology areas to ensure end to end delivery of agreed upon solutions or services within planned forecasts / cost estimates. Role generally supports a significant Business area, Product Group, Enterprise Platform, Service or Capability within a Segment CIO or Functional area.

Depth & Scope:

  • Role generally supports a significant business area, product group, Enterprise Platform, Service or Capability under a Segment CIO or technology functional area.

  • Sets work direction at an operational level, works autonomously in the management of the unit and collaborates with other business or technology leaders to establish and execute on common goals with a medium to longer term business perspective

  • Expert knowledge of the business and bank technology standards (e.g., infrastructure, architecture, processes, applications) from a strategic perspective and managing/ directing teams and projects

  • Sound knowledge of external competition, emerging, industry and/or market trends in relation to own business

  • Integrator role that oversees various technology functions / resources to deliver business technical solutions or shared service

  • Oversees a sizable and varied team of technology professionals (e.g., up to 50+ consisting of Application Developers, Solutions Designers, Business Systems Analysts, Specialists, and/or Project Managers) in the end to end delivery of complex projects, system enhancements / applications and/or application or service management

  • Directs/manages large-scale applications/ projects across multiple product lines/ businesses, involving significant scope and complexity

  • Understands strategic direction (including financials) and champions alliances to benefit the Bank and/or department; advocates for operational improvements to enhance the divisions value to the organization

  • Role typically reports to an Executive role

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree or Technical Certificate.

  • Graduate degree, preferred.

  • 10+ years related experience.
