Director, Strategic Transformation and Program Management Office (PMO)
As American Express continues along an impressive growth trajectory, the company is ascending the ranks of the Federal Reserve’s bank categorization. With the category changes come heightened requirements in the liquidity, capital, and regulatory reporting domains. To prepare, American Express created Project Fast Forward to interpret these new requirements and uplift capabilities to meet our needs. A Program Management Office (PMO) has been established to oversee this multi-year transformation initiative that is critical to American Express’ continued success. The PMO is coordinating across Finance and other enterprise partners to facilitate the end-to-end lifecycle of change management.
As a member of the PMO, the Director role will partner with leaders to evolve project plans, ensure progress against project milestones, and lead select topic deep dives with senior leadership. The PMO role will partner directly with global stakeholders and interact frequently with senior program leaders across Finance, Risk, Technology, and other functions. There is a high degree of complexity to meet new and evolving regulations for American Expression and deliverables have tight timelines which require coordination across multiple teams. The Director will need to be dynamic, adaptable, and flexible, while leveraging existing and further refining PMO best practices. To be successful, the Director will need to ramp up quickly, building relationships and subject matter knowledge to draw connections across teams and support SMEs and cross functional team in the prioritization of deliverables.
How will you make an impact in this role?
Strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple tasks and initiatives simultaneously, and drive alignment on key decisions
Provide thought leadership and liaise with enterprise teams to uplift project management governance and best practices to comply with new enterprise requirements
Develop impactful relationships, engage extensive set of stakeholders
Play a central role in uplifting Finance organizations awareness and understanding of Category Migration through various engagement activities, including learning and development days
Deep dive into critical topics to understand impact to business, tailor message and develop impactful material for leadership updates
Provide leadership to direct team and influence a variety of stakeholders
Qualifications:
Instinctive project management acumen: attention to detail along with ability to keep the big picture in perspective, both proactive and adaptable, ready and willing to handle challenges
7 Strong relationship and leadership skills, with a track record of positively collaborating, influencing, and extensively coordinating with internal and external partners, including senior leaders
Superb communication skills to synthesize key messages, prepare impactful materials, and tailor appropriately for the audience
Powerful professional presence with the ability to set the right tone when engaging with others
Proven ability to manage multiple demands successfully within a matrixed organization
Team player comfortable working collaboratively to resolve challenges in a demanding environment
Agile, comfort with white space and ambiguity, able to drive change across teams outside of direct reporting line
Prior experience in Treasury or finance in a large bank, a plus
Qualifications
Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
