JOB DESCRIPTION

The Executive Vice President, Legal Operations and Administration is a critical senior leader who brings leadership, knowledge, and experience necessary to drive peak operational performance, best manage resources, and help mitigate risk to the company. This position will oversee and manage all operational aspects of the Law and Policy department, including human resources, strategic planning, financial planning, outside counsel/vendor management, innovation, eDiscovery, legal technology, department communications, department-wide meetings, project management and change management.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide entrepreneurial and innovative thought leadership to the Chief Legal and Policy Officer to deliver best in class results across the Law and Policy department and to develop and execute department initiatives to further enhance client service delivery, enable technologies, develop talent, and streamline operations in a coordinated approach
  • Serve on the Senior Staff of the Law and Policy team and partner to develop and promote the mission and vision of the department and oversee, develop, and manage the strategic plan in alignment with the corporate strategic plan (plan development, communication, reporting, and ongoing measurement against objectives)
  • Serve as liaison with corporate finance
  • Prepare and manage the annual financial plan, both internal operating and outside vendor, including setting and managing annual budgets, forecasts, accruals, historical analysis, regular and periodic reports to corporate finance, and any other reports or projects that may be required
  • Oversee general administration of the legal department including global meetings and other events, lead benchmarking initiatives, manage legal department policies, memberships and collaboration sites, and coordinate with facilities
  • Oversee the process to report reserve recommendations to corporate finance to ensure a consistent, defensible process and approach
  • Oversee outside counsel and legal vendor management, including assessing rates, fee arrangements, and results
  • Ensure vendor guidelines remain current and scorecards are used to ensure performance expectations are met
  • Develop and implement a legal technology roadmap, focusing on matter management, document management, knowledge management, IP management, financial management/e-billing, corporate secretarial services, business intelligence/reporting, and other areas of technology
  • Monitor new technologies to identify opportunities to drive efficiencies
  • Serve as liaison with IT
  • Partner with litigation and employment to oversee eDiscovery related technologies, processes, and vendors
  • Manage all human resources related activities including annual talent planning, periodic org structure assessments, hiring, firing and promotions
  • Develop and communicate the annual performance review and compensation process and timeline
  • Serve as liaison with HR

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • 10+ years of experience running an operations function for a legal department of a multi-national or similar public company
  • Experience in contract lifecycle management, including process redesign, technology, and project management
  • Experience with legal technologies, including but not limited to matter management, e-billing, document management, eDiscovery, and contract management
  • Excellent ability to grasp legal and business issues quickly
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong presentation and executive presence
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Excellent management skills, including the ability to effectively motivate and manage a team
  • Exercise sound judgment and provide practical and constructive advice in a time-sensitive, dynamic, and fast paced complex global environment
  • Ability to demonstrate sound and independent judgment, strategic thinking, creative thinking, prudence, and maturity in complex and sensitive matters
  • Ability to build relationships internally as well as externally

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is: $462,500.00-570,000.00 annually for New York City and Westchester County, NY. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
