Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Genetic Counselor in New York, New York

Provide information, counseling and support to individuals (affected or unaffected) and families at risk for inherited cancer predispositions. Specifically, the Genetic Counselor shall:Analyze pedigrees for possible cancer predisposition syndromes, assessing risk for specific types of cancer, interpreting information, coordinating genetic testing, identifying at-risk family members, reviewing available options for prevention and surveillance and making appropriate referrals.Conduct case preparation, research and summarize data from published literature and databases, conduct in-depth medical history intake during session, reviews and expand three generation pedigree.Communicate family history assessment and risk information, explains cancer screening recommendations and risk-reduction options, makes referrals as needed, and assesses patient competency and understanding in response to medical information given.Explain the potential benefits, risks and limitations of genetic testing, determines eligibility and facilitate enrollment in research protocols, review and obtain consent for genetic testing.Determine appropriate commercial or research genetic tests for patient and sequential testing when appropriate, coordinate sample collection, tracks patient status and transmit results.Contribute to development of and administration of IRB-approved research studies, especially as relates to clinical care of the research participants.Develop and implement a case management plan for each patient, including medical management recommendations.Requires Master’s degree in Human Genetics, Medical Genetics, or closely related and one (1) year of experience in genetic counseling. Minimum Salary: 98,500 Maximum Salary: 157,600 Salary Unit: Yearly
