HIM Specialist

Full-Time, On-Site

Overview:

Under direct supervision, the Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist will monitor, analyze and maintain health information data, ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations and HSS policies and procedures. The HIM Specialist will support a high efficiency team within the HIM department to ensure that patient medical records are accurate and complete. The HIM Specialist is a resource for continuum of care services to hospital staff, medical staff and patients. The HIM Specialist will perform multiple entry level functions pertaining to various areas in HIM department.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pick up lite chart documents from different hospital units, prep, scan and index to the correct patient and document type

  • Perform Quality Assurance of scanned documents

  • Monitor and Processes Correspondence (mail, e-mails and faxes)

  • Analyze medical records for completeness and compliance

  • Validate documentation deficiencies and update their status

  • Process ROI requests

  • Validate patient information using MPI

  • Use different EMR systems in daily HIM operations

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accuracy and integrity of health information data

  • Identify canceled encounters and notify appropriate HIM staff.

  • Monitor work queues and perform problem resolution/corrective action where needed.

  • Maintains required records, reports, and files as directed.

  • Reviews documentation to ensure quality and accuracy

  • Attends all meetings designated by supervisor. Including, but not limited to, all staff, huddles and town hall meetings.

  • Flexible to cover weekends, as needed

Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications RHIA / RHIT Preferred

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma, GED, or a higher level of education that would require the completion of high school, is required. Associates degree preferred.1-2 years of experience in HIM department preferred

KNOWLEDGE OF: Knowledge of Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office products, Electronic Health Records, Document Imaging Systems, and office equipment. Knowledge of medical terminology anatomy and physiology, medical procedures, medications, and laboratory test. Knowledge / Basic Understanding of State and Federal Guidelines, Joint Commission Accreditation Standards.

SKILLS: Active listening, attention to detail, problem solving, critical thinking, and prioritization, organization and time management. ABILITY TO: Effectively uses computer software and technology as required by the organization including Microsoft Word and Excel. Uses fax, copier, phone system and other required tools. Locates the records for the patient in multiple systems as required. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written WORK ENVIRONMENT: Fast paced environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The position requires working predominantly in a sedentary manner there are times that will require some walking, bending, reaching, stooping, lifting, carrying and pushing of supplies and medical records.

Pay Range - Minimum

USD $31.69/Hr.
