Job Description
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.

OCME’s Human Resources Department is looking for a Labor Investigator to handle employee discipline, grievance and labor-related matters. The chosen candidate will interact with various stakeholders, including labor unions, to promote positive labor relations and handle disciplinary matters. They will also be involved in conducting training.
Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Serve as conference leader at Step II hearings
Conducting research and analysis in support of employee disciplinary matters
Provide contractual guidance and interpretation for managers and supervisors concerning disciplinary procedures
Serving as primary liaison to the Employment Law Unit at DOHMH and the Office of Labor Relations
Assisting in the case preparation for Disciplinary Grievance and OATH hearings, and related issues
Attends disciplinary hearings at DOHMH & OCME
Preparing and updating the Monthly Disciplinary Reports.
May assist in the managing of the Agency’s Performance Management Program, providing guidance to supervisors and managers on performance management tools, and maintaining Performance Management tracking systems
Will participate in the E-Performance roll-out agencywide
Assist in the Employee Performance Evaluation Appeal process.
Reviewing and providing guidance to managers and supervisors for the preparation of warning memos, counseling/coaching discussions.
Formulating and assisting in the implementation of appropriate management responses to problem situations which will foster harmonious and productive employee relations.
Qualifications
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in one or more of the fields of accounting, auditing, correction administration, criminal justice administration and planning, forensic science, inspection, investigation, law enforcement, personnel administration, police science, and/or security, or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made; or
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or
Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
