GENERAL DUTIES

Under general supervision, plans, designs, develops, and fulfills PeopleSoft Enterprise Human Capital Management, Campus Solutions, and Finance Solutions application development requirements for complex applications.

The Software Developer (PeopleSoft) demonstrates mastery of one or more PeopleSoft product modules and expertise using Application Engine, PeopleSoft Tools, and People Code. Serves as a resource person in at least one of the above mentioned modules.

All personnel perform related work. This specification describes typical assignments; related duties may be assigned as needed. There are two assignment levels (level 1 and Level 2).

General Work Tasks

Assignment Level 1

  • Interprets functional designs to create technical designs containing the information needed to code PeopleSoft objects, partnering with Project Team members to collect requirements and validate designs

  • Codes PeopleSoft objects adhering to technical designs

  • Applies standard PeopleSoft development tools and other software components as needed (e.g., Application Designer, Application Engine, SQR, Application Messaging, Component Interfaces, PeopleSoft, Crystal Reports)

  • Creates documentation needed to support PeopleSoft code

  • Creates and executes unit and system integration tests to validate new or changed code; documents errors and resolves defects

  • Works with feedback from the user community

  • Supports technical aspects of code deployment to production environments

  • Supports the Production function by resolving code defects identified by end users

  • Works to support transition of Production Support to Managed Services team

  • Designs and generates PeopleSoft reports

  • Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity

Assignment Level 2

  • Completes all Level 1 tasks

  • Troubleshoots codes / PeopleSoft objects adhering to technical designs using specialized

  • Serves as an expert resource to Level1 staff

  • Applies expertise and supplies technical guidance to others using standard PeopleSoft development tools and other software components as needed (e.g., Application Designer, Application Engine, SQR, Application Messaging, Component Interfaces, PeopleSoft, Crystal Reports)

  • Advises Level 1 staff during unit and system integration tests to validate new or changed code; documents errors and resolves defects

  • Provides technical support and troubleshooting within defined service level agreements

  • Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of larger scope and complexity than Level 1

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Office of Computing and Information Services (CIS) at the City University of New York (CUNY) supports the IT and telecommunications needs of CUNY's 25 colleges. CIS supports enterprise IT and applications, identifies and develops new technologies that advance the University's core mission, operates and maintains the University's network, the enterprise Data Center, and the CUNY Service Desk. Additionally, CIS manages the processes of safeguarding the University’s IT assets and maintaining the security posture by operating the CUNY Security Operations Center (SOC), develops disaster recovery plans for business continuity, and supports the CUNYfirst Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution that integrates student administration, financial management, and human resources operations across CUNY’s 25 colleges. Lastly, CIS provides strategic and operational IT leadership to all CUNY campuses.

Reporting to the PeopleSoft Finance Solutions Manager, the PeopleSoft Production Support Engineer will be a technical application support engineer responsible for the Cash Management module in PeopleSoft. Additional support may be required for the PeopleSoft suite consisting of Accounts Payable, Account Receivable, General Ledger, Purchasing, and eProcurement. The incumbent will offer superior client support, promote and ensure consistent performance of deployed PeopleSoft services. Additionally, they will support PeopleSoft applications, collaborate with various IT and business teams to design, interpret, and create documents, execute system integrations, test and validate new or changed code, generate reports, and provide solutions to resolve code defects in transactions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develops design documents based on business requirements; evaluates and analyzes user requests and designs new or modified programs; creates documentation to support the PeopleSoft code.

  • Interprets functional designs to create technical designs for PeopleSoft objects, partners with Project Team members to collect requirements, and validates designs.

  • Codes PeopleSoft objects adhering to technical designs, uses standard PeopleSoft development tools and other software components as needed (e.g., Application Designer, Application Engine, SQR, Application Messaging, Component Interfaces, PeopleSoft, Crystal Reports); executes unit and system integration tests to validate new or changed code, documents errors, and resolves defects.

  • Resolves code defects reported by users to support Production functions and facilitates transition to the Managed Services team for Production Support.

  • Performs and supplies guidance on system administration activities focused on the PeopleSoft Financials, including testing, change control, monitoring utilization, and triaging support.

  • Designs and generates PeopleSoft reports, provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.

  • Delivers daily technical support for the PeopleSoft Cash Management module, ensures operational efficiency based on user feedback; enhances the PeopleSoft application, addresses issues and corrects deficiencies to maintain smooth operations.

  • Serves as a technical subject matter resource, applies expertise and supplies technical guidance during unit and system integration tests and user testing; ensures that all issues are resolved efficiently.

  • Performs special ad hoc software design and coding requests, projects, initiatives, and other related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position as assigned.

NOTES:

  1. Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.

  2. An appointment to this Competitive title/position in the Classified Civil Service Title Series will be made with a Provisional status. Employees in provisional status must pass a competitive civil service examination and be appointed from a civil service list to remain in the title/position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Level 1

1) A combination of education and experience that may be met by one of the following:

a) Oracle/PeopleSoft certification for PeopleSoft Version 8 or later with 2 years of full time information technology work experience which must have been primarily in PeopleSoft development,

OR

b) A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in computer science or related field plus three (3) years of full-time information technology work experience, which must have been primarily in PeopleSoft development,

OR

c) An Associate's degree from an accredited institution in computer science or related field plus five (5) years of full-time information technology work experience, at least three (3) years of which must have been primarily in PeopleSoft development,

OR

d) A High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution and at least seven (7) years of full time information technology work experience (post-high school), at least three (3) years of which must have been primarily in PeopleSoft development

2) Demonstrated English language proficiency, including the ability to speak, read, write and understand English well enough to meet minimally acceptable performance standards set for job tasks.

Please note: No substitutions or equivalencies for 3 years of PeopleSoft Development experience will be accepted

Level 2 and level 3

In addition to minimum qualifications, candidates for level 2 and 3 must demonstrate that they hold additional qualifications (education, experience, or certification) appropriate to the specific requirements of the position.

Level 4

In addition to the qualifications for level 3, candidates for level 4 must demonstrate that they hold additional qualifications (education, experience, or certification) appropriate to the specific requirements of the position.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred

The ideal candidate should demonstrate or possess:

  • Work experience in PeopleSoft Financials/Supply Chain Management 9.2.

  • Experience with PeopleSoft Cash Management required; additional experience with other modules should include Accounts Payable, Account Receivable, General Ledger, Purchasing, eProcurement, and Commitment Control.

  • In-depth knowledge of bank account setup, bank statement import process, manual reconciliation, semi-manual reconciliation, auto-reconciliation, bank statement accounting, EFT transfers, and other important functions of treasury and cash management.

  • Experience in:

  • problem triage and resolution as applied to IT applications.

  • production application change control practices and processes.

  • Thorough knowledge of PeopleTools 8.5.x in the areas of SQR, PeopleCode, Application Engine, XML Publisher, SQL developer, and others.

  • Basic understanding of WebLogic, Tuxedo, SFTP, etc., in a PeopleSoft-hosted environment.

  • Strong communication skills to interface with technical staff, administrative users, business process owners, and other Information Resources managers.

  • Exceptionally well-organized and able to effectively analyze and resolve complex problems while rendering sound resolutions and ability to articulate goals and manage multiple resources and priorities.

  • Ability to work productively as an individual contributor and collaboratively as a team member in a fast-paced, time-sensitive, customer-responsive, and team-oriented environment.

COMPENSATION

The salary is $109,560.
