Job Description

The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. DYCD is seeking a Community Coordinator who will, under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner, oversee ongoing operations of the Discretionary Unit’s Outreach and Support team, with wide latitude for the exercise of independent action and decision making, develop, implement, and oversee operations for the DAP Outreach and Support Team. The Unit’s responsibilities are to create and sustain relationships with prospective and actual funded non-profit organizations across the City of New York; schedule and conduct meetings to provide overviews concerning how to contract with the City and ways to optimize and leverage their city-funded work; liaise with local community organizations, and elected officials offices; assist in unit-wide and division-wide initiatives such as public events like street fairs, community forums, meet and greet events with CBOs, the annual Night Out Against Crime and similar community activities, and help in the agency efforts to determine service needs through various means

Qualifications

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

  2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

  3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
