Axis Program Underwriting Manager – Commercial Auto in New York, New York

Program Underwriting Manager – Commercial Auto

New York – Hybrid

How does this role contribute to our collective success?

The Program Underwriting Manager – Auto is responsible for the product management of all auto products (both ISO and manuscript) distributed across the North American Programs Platform; delegated underwriting authorities. The role will have responsibility for management of assigned programs, and the evaluation of new program submissions.

What will you do in this role?

Product Management

  • Responsible for product management for all auto products across all programs, including those that you do not directly manage.

  • Develop and maintain a repository of all products within the auto family to include auto liability, auto physical damage, and contingent liability.

  • Evaluate and approve all new product development and rate/rule/form changes within the department. Supervise all auto filings and regulatory compliance.

  • Determine product competitiveness, pricing efficacy and market acceptance for all auto liability and physical damage covers, including contingent liability.

Program Management

  • Overall management of assigned programs, to include responsibility for development, implementation, and monitoring of business plans, coordination of AXIS resources, and achievement of financial goals.

  • Manage delegated underwriting authority for assigned programs by maintaining program management agreements and underwriting guidelines. Conduct routine underwriting and rate/rule/form audits to ensure compliance.

  • Underwrite auto referral accounts across the department.

  • Identify and deliver expansion of AXIS product offering with existing programs.

  • Train fellow Program Underwriting Managers with responsibility for programs with auto products on best-in-class commercial auto underwriting.

About You:

What you need to have:

  • Deep expertise in ISO-based Commercial Auto products to include coverage, policy construction, and rating.

  • Familiarity with ISONet and navigating the Commercial Lines Manual

  • Direct experience in underwriting and managing Delegated Underwriting Authority (PAs, MGAs, MGUs).

  • 8+ years in underwriting Commercial Auto (specially in medium, heavy and extra heavy Classes)

  • Ability to negotiate contracts, develop business plans, and manage external stakeholders in the deliverance of business plans.

  • In-depth financial and underwriting understanding of programs business, with the ability to assess and develop financial projections and forecasts on existing and prospective programs.

  • Proficiency in Excel (build models and conduct analyses), Power BI, PowerPoint, and Word.

Role Factors:

  • Work in the New York office Tuesday-Thursday

  • Travel domestically 1–2 times per quarter

  • Attend industry events over weekends occasionally

What we offer:

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $190,000 to $225,000 (NY), Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of various factors including your specific experience and work location.
