Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.
The Public Programs department is seeking a Public Programs Manager to join their team. The Public Programs Manager is responsible for assisting with all program development, operations and logistics to implement the full calendar of public programs.
Job duties include:
  • Support the Director in program development, logistics and operations.
  • Conduct research and development for programs. Create program descriptions and collateral materials.
  • Arrange internal and external meetings and advance logistics for programs (onsite and online), including the following:
  • Provide logistical support for talent (e.g., coordinating travel, ensuring technical and other onsite/online needs are met).
  • Liaise with Museum departments and outside vendors/contractors.
  • Create and manage runs of show and program footprints.
  • Coordinate, stage-manage and provide day-of support for Public Programs lectures, festivals and other onsite and online programs.
  • Provide administrative support to Public Programs, including office management, execution of documents, tracking of budget/expenses, presentations and data analyses/reporting.
  • Provide supervision for coordinators, volunteers and interns for onsite public programs.
  • Disseminate and/or acquire knowledge via participation at conferences.
  • Maintain a work schedule that includes nights/weekends.

The expected salary range for the Public Programs Manager is $62,500/annual - $70,000/annual. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years experience in event planning or management, for large and small-scale events.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or associate degree in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated interest in all aspects of public programming (e.g., adult lectures, family workshops, festivals, cultural events).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, online video platforms (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) and databases.
  • Spanish fluency.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
