JOB SUMMARY The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified applicant to fill a full-time Research Assistant position in the Developmental Neuroscience lab at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. The lab's research focuses on in vivo recordings in mice to identify the molecular, cellular and circuit basis of behaviors that are relevant to healthy behaviors and also symptoms of psychiatric disorders

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -Managing a colony of four different lines of transgenic mice. -Ordering and maintaining supplies, reagents, and tracking expenses. -Oversee the lab's training and compliance requirements for safety and animal welfare -Alongside these administrative tasks, the assistant will help with histology, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, Behavioral testing and surgical procedures

QUALIFICATIONS -A bachelor's degree from a four-year institution and a minimum of 1 year of experience in a research setting -At least 4 years of experience with general computer programs (such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint) -Experience working with mice(Preferred) -Training will be provided for the specialized software required for mouse colony management (Transnetyx) and lab ordering and inventories (Quartzy), but some similar previous experience is preferred.
