GENERAL DUTIES

Conducts academic research in connection with CUNY programs; may assist faculty, staff, and students in conducting research and lead research efforts involving others.

  • Develops research plans and proposals and participates in acquiring funding

  • Collects, analyzes, and assures validity of data

  • Writes progress reports; writes and publishes findings

  • Collaborates with internal and external colleagues

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Reporting to the Associate Provost for Research at The City College of New York, the Director of Proposal Development will develop and oversee CCNY’s programs and resources that support faculty pursuit of external sponsors for their research. The Director will work with partners in colleges, institutes, and administrative offices across CUNY to meet CCNY’s strategic goals in the growth of sponsored research activity, and will work with CCNY leadership to develop those goals and track progress. In conjunction with the Associate Provost for Research, the goals of this position are to (1) foster the success of early-career faculty by helping them grow their grant-writing skills, (2) support faculty pursuing center-level funding opportunities that necessitate complex proposals featuring multiple PIs, (3) increase research funding that incorporates a multidisciplinary approach that bridges the gap between art, humanities, health, science, and engineering.

Major responsibilities and tasks include but are not limited to the following:

  • Developand coordinate programs in support of early career researchers at CCNY, including proposal writing training and one-on-one support.

  • Offer wraparound support for faculty pursuing large-scale proposals, including project planning and management, the drafting of institutional statements, and comprehensive, multi-stage review.

  • Develop programming to encourage faculty pursuit of large-scale proposals including transdisciplinary collaborations; such as, facilitating proposal planning sessions with stakeholders.

  • Execute proposal processes and procedures providing best practices for proposal development and streamlining faculty responses to major funding opportunities with the establishment and nurturing of research teams and strategic partnerships.

  • Develop, advertise, and support activities that position faculty, postdoctoral scholars, and students for future sponsored research opportunities.

  • Identify and promote specific funding opportunities and build teams to ensure effective communication channels and appropriate interaction with departments and/or groups on campus to support the development of large-scale proposals (including large transdisciplinary proposals) and projects based on team science and scholarship.

  • Coordinate CCNY’s limited submission and internal competitions processes (including for internal funding competitions) to ensure that they proceed in a fair and timely manner.

  • Seek out resources to build CCNY’s research development infrastructure, including external funding to build research capacity

  • Promote CCNY’s research profile through the publication of public-facing content and other events that invite public stakeholders to partner with CCNY and Partner strategically with research offices at CUNY central, RFCUNY, and other CUNY campuses to develop programs that will foster faculty success in securing research funding.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Doctoral Degree in a related field and demonstrated research ability.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: $90,000 - $120,000

Commensurate with experience and skills
