Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

We are in search of new talent in the following position...

Position: Senior Accountant I (Hybrid Remote)

The Senior Accountant I support's the Assistant Controller with a wide variety of functions which include transactional processing, financial analysis, cost allocation, program and annual audit support, the implementation of financial and compliance controls, ad hoc reporting, and special projects, as requested. The Senior Accountant will be a key member of the accounting team and support company-wide initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in the not-for-profit sector or audit experience in complex non-profit entities.
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Word. Must have strong Excel skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The Senior Accountant I must have strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate clear, effective, and prompt responses to internal and external constituents.

Senior Accountant I Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Allocate the monthly IT invoices. Process the invoices through purchasing System.
  2. Prepare the monthly Fringe benefits allocation.
  3. Record Bank activity.
  4. Record the Corporate Credit card transaction and provide monthly analysis.
  5. Assist with all required annual Audits conducted by outside auditors.
  6. Partake in various department-wide initiatives including ad hoc reporting and special projects, as requested.
