Disability Income Solutions is part of the Product Solutions Value Stream which supports New York Life’s newest product line of Individual Disability Insurance Solutions. In keeping with NYL’s commitment to provide protection first holistic advice and guidance, income protection is an essential component. Disability insurance provides income to individuals who can no longer work because of a disability and helps protect people from financial losses if an accident or illness renders them incapable of working and receiving regular income. This is an important part of any financial strategy because loss of income can not only have an impact on the ability to meet daily expenses but also take a toll on an individual’s standard of living. Our individual disability insurance allows our clients secure coverage not otherwise offered by their employer or bridge the gap left by employer benefits.

New York Life is seeking a highly qualified individual to support the policy administration operations of its Disability Income Solutions (DIS) business. The Operations Manager will work on a day-to-day basis with our third-party administrator (TPA) in managing the DIS policy administration operations. This individual will work with colleagues at all levels across functional lines (e.g., product, compliance, marketing, agency, service, claim, finance, technology) as well as New York Life’s partners (e.g., TPA, reinsurer, vendors). This role requires someone who can work autonomously, manage multiple activities simultaneously, collaborate, has strong problem-solving skills, and an entrepreneurial drive to execute on both day-to-day priorities and longer-term goals.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Monitor policy administration operations, identifying and addressing concerns to ensure performance standards are met or exceeded

  • Address day-to-day policy administration operational issues that arise, managing the resolution of issues, and elevating them to the appropriate managers, as required

  • Monitor TPA service level performance and quality control activities to ensure compliance

  • Manage reconciliation and payment of TPA and other vendors

Ongoing Responsibilities

  • Maintain DIS knowledge management materials

  • Manage user access to technology systems

  • Develop and maintain of all DIS policy administration procedures, process flows and training documents

  • Maintain, update and, as required, draft all DIS policy administration templates for client and agent communications

  • Manage DIS documents on Forms Library

  • Coordinate DIS records management

Ad Hoc Responsibilities

  • Actively support a wide range of DIS projects, especially those involving policy administration operations

  • Collaborate with internal colleagues and external partners to identify and develop solutions to operational problems and opportunities for improvement

  • Work on requests to gather data, conduct research and quantitative and qualitative analysis to generate insights and make recommendations

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree and MBA preferred

  • 5 - 7 years related work experience

  • 3+ years in insurance industry preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to solve business problems and develop insights from data and analysis

  • Excellent communication (written and oral) skills; must be able to communicate with internal and external business partners, agents and clients; enabling the creation and presentation of a broad range of materials

  • Ability to work with multiple, competing priorities simultaneously and meet deadlines

  • Comfortable managing ambiguity

  • Self-starter with a keen sense of ownership, commitment to the work and results orientation

  • Collaborative work style and experience working effectively with individuals at all levels of seniority

  • Capable of successfully working both on teams and individually

  • Ability to quickly absorb a variety of different subject matters

  • Proven critical thinking, analytical and quantitative capabilities

  • High attention to detail

  • Strong project management skills

  • Highly proficient at working with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word and SharePoint required
