Description

The Saleheen lab seeks a Senior Staff Associate I to carry out benchwork studies on genes and mutations identified through genome wide association study and biobank-based computational approaches, with a focus on cardiovascular diseases. The project will involve functional genomics, transcriptomics, molecular biology techniques, RNA biology techniques, mouse modeling, and extensive use of biobank data and materials. The work will include use of clinical research (i.e., human) samples.

Responsibilities:

  • Work independently to design, execute, and interpret benchwork experiments working in a collaborative research environment that spans computational and benchwork approaches.
  • Coordinate and work with internal and external collaborators.
  • Manage inventory of samples and data, including regulatory and compliance requirements for clinical samples and data.
  • Maintenance of a mouse colony for use in experiments, including breeding, weaning, and genotyping.
  • Supervise and provide formal guidance to junior team members.
  • Prepare summaries of methods, data, and interpretation of data for analysis reports, presentations, study manuscripts, monitoring reports and grant applications.
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed/required.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry) and 6-10 years of relevant work experience. Master's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Experience in functional genomics work.
  • Experience with basic molecular biology techniques such as cell culture, western blot, qPCR, cloning, microscopy, and flow cytometry.
  • Experience working in human cardiometabolic diseases, or equivalent coursework.
  • Must be respectful in and effective at interacting and communicating with individual investigators and other members including clinicians, fellows, project staff, external collaborators and information technology personnel involved in research.
  • Must be effective at setting goals, prioritizing work, and time management to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent general written/verbal communication skills.
  • An ability to work independently as well as in a strong team-science environment spanning computational work and molecular biology approaches is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with mouse work, including breeding and colony maintenance, as well as more advanced topics such as designing and generating transgenic mouse lines.
  • Experience with CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatic analyses such as GWAS and gene burden testing,
  • Familiarity with Python and/or R.
