How you will create an impact

This role is a member of the Tax Advisory team and serves as a Senior Tax Accountant reporting to the Head of U.S Tax Controversy. The ideal candidate has experience in preparing U.S. income tax returns for a U.S. based multinational corporation. The role provides accounting support during the IRS audit of AIG’s tax returns. This role supports the business, AIG’s Tax Controversy group, Compliance Group and Financial Reporting Group, and other areas within Tax.

  • Review IRS voluntary audit adjustments to ensure that they are supportable through the IRS audit (including disclosure memos and supporting documentation).

  • Provide quarterly closing reconciliation schedules to AIG’s Financial Reporting Group and tax modeling team to be used for total tax liability and interest calculations.

  • Review SOX control checklist related to the voluntary disclosure process and conduct walkthrough of Tax Authority Audit Adjustments in One Tax for AIG’s outside auditor.

  • Prepare for the future IRS audits including data collection and review of disclosure memos and packages.

  • Work closely with AIG’s financial reporting team and tax modeling team in terms of uncertain tax positions and tax attributes analysis.

  • Prepare or provide information for management reporting purpose including quarterly voluntary disclosure updates.

  • Respond to various requests from IRS, including Information Document Request (“IDR”) responses related to transactions and book to tax adjustments.

  • Defend AIG positions during audit through IDR responses and meetings/discussions with the IRS.

  • Ensure that Forms 5701 (Notice of Proposed Adjustment) are appropriate based on AIG’s disclosures.

  • Update disclosure logs and 5701 logs for management, financial reporting, and tax modeling purposes.

  • Prepare information used by the IRS for Revenue Agent Report (“RAR”) calculations.

  • Calculate consolidated tax liability based on agreed issues for each audit cycle.

  • Prepare final tax settlement calculation for each audit cycle and facilitate closing with IRS audit and/or Appeal computational specialist.

  • Review and reconcile IRS Revenue Agent Reports with AIG’s Tax Modeling group for each audit cycle.

  • Support special projects such as amended tax returns, protective refund claims and refund claims.

  • Support AIG’s position on issues being considered by IRS Appeals.

  • Supporting certain discrete tax reporting or compliance processes.

  • Providing US federal tax technical advice to the Global Tax Modeling team.

  • Working with non-US tax teams on non-US tax matters, as necessary.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • 6+ years as a tax accountant or auditor at an accounting or law firm, the IRS or in a publicly traded company with experience with US multinational insurance companies or other financial institutions.

  • At least a basic degree in accounting, finance or a related field and a license as a Certified Public Accountant or equivalent.

  • An in depth understanding of US corporate tax rules, Subchapter C, and rules specific to the taxation of international companies and the preparation of tax returns for such companies.

  • Strong organizational, planning, and analytical skills with an ability to multi-task and operate in a fast-paced environment.

  • Team player that possesses attention to detail, honesty/integrity, and efficiency.

  • Excellent oral, written, negotiation and persuasion skills

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

The base salary range is $146,000 - $183,000, and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
