Penguin Random House Senior Vice President, Adult Retail Sales in New York, New York

The Penguin Random House Sales division is currently seeking a Senior Vice President to oversee the Adult Retail Sales team, including the Penguin Random House Publisher Services Sales team. This role will focus on building strong customer relationships and developing strategies to maximize the company’s operating performance. Reporting directly to the Chief Revenue Officer, this is a critical and highly visible role that requires working collaboratively with other leaders across PRH’s sales, publishing, and corporate divisions.

On a daily basis, you’ll monitor and evaluate your departments’ operating performance. You will set business goals (e.g. maximizing revenue), identify new business opportunities, and lead strategic decisions for growth. Another key component of this position is maintaining a deep understanding of the marketplace and our products to help you participate in high-level decision making related to sales, marketing, content, and daily operations for internal and external clients. This is a leadership role with a primary goal of developing our business strategy for sustainable growth.

Specifically, the Senior Vice President will:

• Maintain oversight of the daily operations for all Adult Retail’s sales teams and channels (national accounts, field, and clients)

• Set performance and financial goals and implement them through team direction and management

• Provide direction, resources, and oversight to staff including communicating department and company goals, giving feedback, identifying opportunities for development, and overseeing departmental staffing and planning

• Research and identify growth opportunities for publishers, brands and titles across and within each sales channel

• Proactively seek new business tools and methods

• Collaborate with colleagues at all levels to develop comprehensive business strategies across divisions and departments

• Evaluate and execute department’s growth opportunities, identify/ quantify risks, and develop mitigation plans

• Lead and support teams in customer and client strategic negotiations

• Ensure compliance with company policies and local, regional and federal regulations (from DEI to Compliance training)

• Guide and support team and company goals

Requirements:

• Significant prior experience in an executive role including successfully managing large teams, developing processes, and growing a business

• Proven ability serving as the leader of a large team as well as operating within a team to accomplish established goals

• Strong interest in and knowledge of book publishing across a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction genres/categories

• Excellent understanding of business functions such as sales, marketing, retail, finance, operations and publishing

• Demonstrable ability to define, build and implement short- and long-term strategies

• Analytical and data driven

• Highly organized with the ability to execute projects and plan for future projects

• Prior experience managing large budgets

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including handling internal and external negotiations

• Curiosity and desire to learn in an ever-shifting marketplace

The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $300,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results. Penguin Random House job postings include a good faith compensation range for each open position. The salary range listed is specific to each particular open position and takes into account various factors including the specifics of the individual role, and candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
