NBC Universal Staff Automation Engineer (Infrastructure) in New York, New York

NBC Universal has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to become a Staff Automation Engineer for Compute Engineering within the Operations & Technology (O&T) organization, with a specific focus on NBCU on-premises infrastructure.  O&T supports Enterprise Technology, Broadcast and Production systems across the NBCU portfolio globally.

The Automation Engineer will partner with NBCU Technology leadership designing, implementing, and maintaining automated solutions. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge using tools such as Ansible, GIT, Jenkins, integration with ServiceNow, and a strong background with automation and configuration management of on-premises virtualized infrastructure. This role offers an exciting opportunity to develop automation initiatives, streamline processes, and drive innovation within our organization.  Working within an agile framework leveraging tickets/stories in Jira/SNOW, collaboration with cross-functional business leaders and partners, to provide “best in class” support for our NBCU local stations and global enterprise customers.

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of automated solutions to reduce Operational tasks/tickets across various systems and processes.

  • Mentoring/training engineers with automation roles and fostering their professional growth.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and advocate for their requirements, identify automation opportunities, and develop robust solutions.

  • Design and implement automation frameworks, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability of automation scripts and tools focused on, but not limited to, physical infrastructure. 

  • Utilize GIT for version control, ensuring proper branching, merging, and code reviews.

  • Configure and maintain Jenkins pipelines for continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) of automation scripts and on-premises infrastructure components.

  • Integrate automation solutions with ServiceNow platform to streamline incident management, change management, and service request processes.

  • Develop custom workflows, modules, and integrations within ServiceNow to automate routine tasks and improve workflow efficiency.

  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams to design and implement automated on-premises infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and deployment processes.

  • Implement monitoring and alerting mechanisms to ensure the stability, performance, and reliability of automation solutions.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other members of the operations & engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Participate in Automation governance, data management, and automation design best practice to improve ease of use, self-service, and standardization across platforms.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.

  • 6-8 years of experience with on-premises automation engineering, with a focus on infrastructure build, Windows & Linux OS configurations, and operational efficiency.

  • Strong proficiency in scripting languages such as Ansible, Python, PowerShell, or Shell scripting.

  • Extensive experience with version control systems, particularly GIT, including branching and code review processes.

  • Hands-on experience with Jenkins for CI/CD pipeline configuration and management.

  • In-depth knowledge of ServiceNow platform, including integration capabilities and custom development.

  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible for automated provisioning and configuration management of Windows and Linux OS.

  • Understanding of networking concepts, cloud technologies (AWS and Azure) is a plus, and virtualization technologies (VMware, Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Experience leveraging infrastructure APIs to build, configure, manage on-premises infrastructure, along with SaaS based management consoles. 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Experience leading and providing guidance to engineers in automation roles, mentoring them to enhance their technical skills and supporting their professional development.

  • Proven track record of driving automation initiatives and delivering innovative solutions to improve operational efficiency.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Jenkins Engineer or related programming languages.

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and familiarity with agile development methodologies.

  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and best practices for IT service management.

  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, OP5

  • Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the Englewood Cliffs office a minimum of three days per week.

Salary Range: $130,000 - $160,000 (bonus eligible)
