AIG Head of Securitized Products in New York, New York

About the role

All investments managed by an external manager on behalf of an AIG insurance company are determined by the CIO team. The CIO team evaluates external manager performance, tactical asset decisions, investment guideline recommendations and sets the strategic asset allocation for AIG.

The CIO Team is seeking several Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for certain asset classes, as determined by the CIO, potentially including corporate IG and HY, emerging markets, structured finance, agency and non-agency RMBS and CMBS, commercial mortgage loans, corporate and structured credit, sovereign debt, and other areas.

  • In newly created roles, the CIO Team will support market monitoring and invested asset surveillance for each of the main asset classes managed on behalf of the AIG insurance companies by external managers and also support the AIG CIO in specific projects.

  • The principal responsibility of the SME will be to (a) oversee all investment activity in their designated asset classes, (b) advise the CIO team on current and future allocation levels given changing market conditions and risk appetite; (c) liaise with the external managers and co-ordinate all aspects of risk management and required reporting and (d) collaborate across AIG CIOs and AIG third party investment managers to evaluate emerging credit or risk issues across the portfolio.

The SME will also be responsible for helping to evaluate any bespoke transactions that are presented to an AIG insurance company by an external manager.

Additional responsibilities of the SME will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Advise, in conjunction with other members of the CIO team on external manager selection, market opportunities, relative value and issuance/redemption activity in the asset class, including advising on the annual investment plan and strategic asset allocation

  • Be the primary point of contact with all external managers in the asset class including managing relationships and driving effectiveness.

  • Develop regular reporting, meeting cadence and other processes with all external managers in the asset class. Summarize reporting as needed to AIG Regional and Global CIOs.

  • Establish and maintain performance benchmarks for all external managers in the asset class as needed.

  • Produce materials as needed and present to various AIG governing committees including local and global Investment Committees and senior management.

  • Assist in manager selection and establish formal manager oversight processes.

  • Develop and maintain AIG Asset Class Frameworks.

  • Utilize AIG platforms (including Aladdin where relevant) to aggregate data and perform internal analysis as needed.

  • Attend investment manager meetings and industry conferences, as appropriate.

  • On scheduled reporting dates, co-ordinate with the external managers to provide the agreed reporting with data to be used by CIOs, ERM, Investment Accounting and any other AIG departments as needed.

    What we are looking for:

  • 10 + years of demonstrated experience in investment management or insurance asset management, with a focus on securitized products, including MBS, CMBS, and ABS.

  • Strong knowledge of risk frameworks, and credit, liquidity and capital constraints of regulated insurance companies

  • Exceptional communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to infuse the internal investment process with new ideas.

  • Experience with Aladdin preferred although not required.

  • Ability to multi-task across a wide number of activities and multiple, tight deadlines.

  • Limited traveling (up to 10%).

    For positions based in NYC, the base salary range is $175,000 - $225,000. In addition, the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
