About the Internship
Traffic Engineering serves as the unofficial Department of Transportation of the Port Authority and it has the unique and critical Agency responsibility to establish and implement the rules and regulations for vehicular traffic on all Agency roadways in support of the mission of moving and growing the region by ensuring world-class transportation infrastructure.
You will:
Have the unique opportunity to be exposed to all aspects of traffic engineering - planning, design, construction, operations, traffic management, safety, and technology/ITS across various modes of transportation that include some of the busiest and most complex airports, sea ports, tunnels, bridges, and bus stations in the world. Actively engage in the intricacies of coordinating with multiple internal Port Authority departments as well as with external agencies while in Traffic Engineering, and will work with other Engineering functions such as Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Mechanical, etc
Witness firsthand the brainstorming, development, and execution of projects.
Work alongside seasoned colleagues, getting hands-on experience with industry applications, and learn how to use them to find solutions.
Collaborate with others toward common goals, exchange ideas, give feedback, and see real world applications of what you're learning in school.

Responsibilities
Assist in studies to improve traffic flow and safety for motorists and pedestrians at the various Port Authority facilities
Create documents, spreadsheets, drawings, and presentations appropriate to current projects
Perform field investigations, inventories, and data collection
Minimum Qualifications
Enrollment at a college/university through Summer 2025 and into the Fall 2025 semester
Rising sophomore, junior, or senior
Valid Driver's License as some field work is required at various Port Authority facilities
Major in Transportation Engineering or Civil Engineering with a focus on transportation
Desired Qualifications
Ability to create and update drawings using AutoCAD
Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and organization skills
Internship Details
The start date will be Thursday, May 29, 2025
The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 22, 2025
This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
The format is expected to be hybrid

Compensation & Benefits
The hourly rate range is $17.63 to $27.21 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
