Job Description:

The Director, Business Development is responsible for growing client relationships and TDGIS' profile within the community to facilitate the recommendation and selection of TDGIS investment solution. This role is also responsible for building market understanding of TDGIS as a provider of leading-edge investment solutions, resulting in an increase in the number of strategies researched and recommended by consultants and driving new business opportunities.

Depth & Scope:

  • Develops, maintains and communicates a business development strategy framework

  • Develops and implements new and innovative approaches to the sales process; provides expert advice internally and externally

  • Serves as the primary investment contact for assigned prospects and/or intermediaries

  • Builds strong relationships with field consultants gathering market intelligence and disseminating it back to the team

  • Facilitates meetings of internal stakeholders to assess, strategize and assign accountability of tasks to complete requests

  • Solves unique problems with broad impact on the business segment and financials

  • Works with Consultant Research Team to maintain / obtain buy ratings for TDGIS institutional investment solutions

  • Provides prospects, consultants and / or intermediaries with ongoing updates about the investment philosophy, process, and performance of specific products

  • Defines new approaches to sell and deliver solutions and products

  • Provides oversight of RFP process

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)

  • 10 + years experience in a business development sales role with a proven track record in establishing new business within the institutional marketplace - Pension, Asset/Liability, Multi-Asset, Private Market and/or Portfolio Management sales experience highly preferred

  • Extensive knowledge of the institutional marketplace, including pension, insurance, endowment & foundation, sub-advisory and understanding all aspects of the investors

  • A high-energy level and the ability to be focused and self directed are essential

  • Strong existing relationships, both direct and through intermediaries such as consultants.

  • Superior prospecting, lead generation and relationship management skills

  • Capacity to function independently while providing appropriate and meaningful feedback and direction to senior management on issues/challenges

  • Strong business judgment, resource management and negotiation skills

  • Outstanding communication, presentation and consensus building skills required, in addition to proven team leadership and project management experience

  • Up to date knowledge of relevant legislation

  • Solid performance in team atmosphere

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

  • Strong attention to detail and follow through

Shareholder Accountabilities:

  • Develops / implements sales strategies to proactively attract, acquire and retain customers / sales opportunities and referrals, to increase profitability and enable business growth

  • Plans and executes business development activities, reviews and communicates results, and adjusts tactics accordingly

  • Promotes and offers full suite of products, sales, services

  • Protects the interests of the organization – identifies and manages risks, and escalates non-standard, high risk transactions / activities as necessary

  • Ensures documentation that is prepared / completed is accurate and properly reflects client / business intentions and is consistent with relevant rules / regulations

  • Actively manages relationships within and across various business lines/ corporate and/or control functions and ensure alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements

  • Ensures necessary due diligence to support the accuracy of all customer transactions / activities
