Position Summary
Dr. Shah Ali's laboratory at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated Technician B to support ongoing research projects in the lab, which investigates mechanisms of cardiomyocyte maturation and heart regeneration. The projects will utilize cultured mammalian cells, mouse models, and lentivirus and adeno-associated viruses and a combination of biochemistry, molecular biology, and high-throughput bioinformatics approaches to answer questions related to mammalian cardiac regeneration. Overall, the Technician B will have multi-faceted responsibilities in a collaborative space that will help generate fundamental biological insights about cardiac maturation and regeneration.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the principal investigator and other colleagues in the lab in designing, carrying out, and coordinating research.
- Works under general supervision.
- Set up and conduct experiments or activities according to established protocols and record data.
- Performing assays and preparing solutions according to detailed instructions.
- Setting up equipment for experiments, calibrations, or radiation surveys.
- Carrying out fully planned experiments.
- Assisting in collection of samples and keeping records of the results of experiments.
- Ordering and maintaining lab or clinical supplies.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or equivalent in training and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in cardiac research.
Other Requirements
- The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to final offer of employment being made.
- Participation in the Medical Surveillance Program
- Position involves working with animals
- Experience with rodent handling and breeding.
- Familiar with standard molecular biology techniques, such as cloning, DNA/RNA/protein extraction, RT/PCR/qPCR, electrophoresis, immunoblotting, etc.
- Great organizational and time management skills.
- Great communication skills and passion to work in a team environment.
