Position Summary

The Levo Lab () investigates mechanisms of gene regulation. Projects in the lab aim to decipher how genomes instruct dynamic gene activity during early development. The lab employs a combination of computational and experimental approaches, including machine learning, genomic assays, and live imaging of subcellular dynamics coupled to CRIPSR-based genome engineering. Much of the experimental work is carried out in live Drosophila embryos. The technician will work closely with the PI and members of the lab to create new experimental techniques and obtain quantitative measurements illuminating the control of gene activity. Work will entail fly husbandry, genetics, molecular work, imaging, and general lab maintenance. The technician will participate in all lab meetings and will be expected to engage intellectually in the lab's research and contribute to a collaborative scientific environment.

Responsibilities

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Prepare, order, and maintain stocks of necessary reagents, solutions and lab supplies.
• Handle fly husbandry.
• Participate in laboratory meetings and read literature applicable to the research area(s).
• Work collaboratively with graduate students and postdocs, primarily carrying out molecular cloning and genome engineering.
• Work with the PI on the development of new tools and technologies for general lab usage.
• Design and perform experiments in a high-risk high-gain independent project.
• Anticipate one or more co-authored research publications to result from their time in the lab.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor's degree in biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, chemistry, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• A commitment of two or more years is desired.
• Applicant should have experience with molecular cloning (e.g., PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, restriction digestion/ligation, and/or Gibson assembly) and excellent proficiency using micropipettes, running gels, setting up enzymatic reactions, and learning new techniques.
• Applicant must have excellent organizational and communication skills. A successful candidate will be able to complete tasks in a timely manner, with attention to detail, and ability to multitask effectively.

Other Requirements

• Must be willing to work with Drosophila fruit flies.
