Position Summary:
The Newark College of Engineering, Office of the Dean seeks applications for an adjunct instructor to teach Prototyping Essentials (ENGR 320) course. ENGR 320 covers a variety of design and prototyping skills and concepts and requires student to demonstrate skills with weekly fabrication projects completed in the NJIT Makerspace. The successful candidate should be familiar with modern prototyping machinery and processes including CO2 laser cutting, fiber laser cutting, standard and CNC woodworking equipment, water jets, thermoforming, 3D printing, Fusion 360 2D and 3D CAD, Fusion 360 CAM, Arduino Programming, basic electronics, measurement tools, and other equipment. Training and qualifications on the operation of specific equipment can be provided by the NJIT Makerspace staff prior to the semester.
Essential Functions:
Develop and deliver lectures and labs on prototyping, 2D modeling, 3D modeling, laser cutting, electronic circuit building, microcontrollers, water jets, 3D printing, woodworking, thermoforming, fastening, etc.
Prepare materials for laboratory assignments and conduct laboratory exercise supervision.
Learn and use online course management system – Canvas.
Hold office hours in the NJIT Makerspace and coordinate with instructor running additional sections of ENGR 320 on a regular basis.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
Candidates should have at least an M.S. degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Design, or a closely related field.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching university level courses.
At the university's discretion the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidates should be prepared to teach on a face-to-face basis.
