Position Summary:
Works under the direction of the EOP Executive Director. The Assistant Director will provide comprehensive group and one-on-one counseling/advising to freshmen cohort. Asist in the planning and Implementation of the Five-Week Summer EOP Residential Enrichment Program.
Essential Functions:
Maintains an EOP student caseload and facilitates workshops on college success and develops initiatives to enhance the retention of EOP students.
Provide a structured ongoing program of academic, personal, career and financial counseling for EOP Freshmen students.
Establish a positive environment to facilitate open communications and serve as a liaison with students, faculty, and staff.
Design and facilitate workshops on study/note taking skills, time/stress management, diversity education, healthy relationships, and other required college skills to succeed.
Organize and teach EOP Freshmen Seminar classes Summer, Fall and Spring semester.
Keep abreast of academic policies and procedures as prescribed by the University and the EOP Program including curriculum updates, academic requirements, and exceptions to the requirements.
Attend on- and off-campus workshops, training programs, and professional development conferences (e.g., EOF NJ Statewide Conference) and serve on campus-wide committees as required.
Monitor EOP FTFTF students' academic performance and progress and provide advisement on course registration.
Develop research programs to assist students in assessing their strengths and weaknesses as they relate to establishing realistic, personal, academic and career goals.
Work closely with all offices and departments in the College and specifically within the Divisions of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs.
Complete monthly/annual reports on all counseling activities.
Assist with the completion of final EOF reports, both for internal and external purposes.
Coordinate Undergraduate Mentoring and mandatory Tutoring Programs and EOP Alumni Mentoring Program.
Assist in the coordination for the Summer Academic Enrichment program incoming Freshmen students.
Assist in the planning and coordination of annual activities such as: Open House, Awards Banquet and others.
Conduct monthly cohort meetings with EOP Freshmen students.
Assist with the add/drop process.
Meet with Probation students twice a month.
Provide Financial Aid Counseling.
Review student Bills.
Process internal applications for Winter and Summer session funding.
Works occasional evenings and weekends.
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of EOP.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
Master’s degree in student Personnel Services or related field required.
A minimum of three years’ full time professional experience working in a college/university setting required.
At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with documented experience in the following:
Higher Education areas (Financial Aid, Counseling/Advising, Career Counseling, and other Student Academic Services).
Demonstrated experience providing support to students who have historically shown ability and motivation in the face of economic and academic challenge.
Demonstrated knowledge of the history, purpose, and mission of EOP.
Basic understanding of the purpose, process and goals of the EOP Summer Program.
Demonstrated ability to develop, plan, and present programs, and workshops.
Experience working with individuals from social-economically challenged backgrounds.
Working knowledge of Banner and Navigate.
