Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Sr. Student Program Coordinator for the Honors Living-Learning Community (HLLC), a transformative college access and success program that fosters the academic, social, and personal development of talented students from all walks of life with a desire to make a difference in their communities and beyond. With an innovative curriculum centered on themes of "Local Citizenship in a Global World," HLLC students live and learn at Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N) with students from all over the world. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of the Honors Living-Learning Community (HLLC), this position's primary responsibility will be assisting the HLLC Community by contributing to the development and implementation of culturally responsive support infrastructures aimed at fostering the holistic success of HLLC scholars from admission through graduation.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Supporting the HLLC administrative team in providing programmatic assistance for initiatives aimed at enhancing the academic, psycho-social, and leadership development of HLLC scholars.
  • Assists with implementing and assessing innovative and evidence-based programming and approaches.
  • Helps coordinate and implement the HLLC's admissions process in partnership with the Office of Admissions.
  • Works collaboratively with the HLLC Deans and other university partners to enhance services and program outcomes for HLLC scholars.
  • Assists in implementing co-curricular initiatives that foster seamless learning, leadership development, and success for HLLC scholars. These initiatives include but are not limited to the HLLC Peer Mentoring Initiative and Peer Academic Support Communities (PASC), identity-based leadership and discussion groups, and the HLLC Student Council.
  • Collaborates with other RU-N units, including the Office of Student Life, the Office of Health Promotions, and the CARE team, to provide wrap-around services to support the holistic development of HLLC scholars.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience demonstrating knowledge and understanding of program design and execution, coordination, organization, facilitation, report analysis, writing, and promotion/outreach.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication skills, and computer literacy are required.

  • Some media, graphic, and web design experience.
  • Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe) and strong use of computer and media applications.

  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications

Equipment Utilized
  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Will use the Student Records Database (SRDB), degree audits, Maxient, in-house applications, and any database or program utilized by the University to perform the duties of this position now or in the future;
  • Must be familiar with or learn the office equipment, software, and specialized programs and/or materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • The HLLC is a fast-paced, deadline-driven, customer service-focused environment;
  • Responsibilities will include attendance at and participation in evening and weekend activities, as needed.
