Duties and Responsibilities (*Indicates an Essential Function)

  • *Performs characterization tests on fiber optic cables, including OTDR, Chromatic Dispersion, Polarization Mode Dispersion, Electrical Tests (High Voltage, IR and DCR).

  • *Analyze results and ensure compliance with specifications.

  • *Safely operates various hand and power tools for preparing cable ends for test.

  • Generates failure reports to track non-compliances.

  • *Interfaces with manufacturing, quality, management, and customer representatives professionally and respectfully.

  • *Follows verbal and written instructions, accepts increased responsibility, and is accountable for his/her actions.

  • *Follows safety guidelines (PPE, etc.) and demonstrates safe work practices.

  • *Maintains a good safety record, has a working knowledge of the behavioral based safety initiatives and accepts the responsibility to communicate unsafe situations.

  • *Adheres to the safety and quality standards (goals and metrics) of the organization while working within a team environment.

  • *While interacting with customers and visitors, represents the Company in a positive manner.

  • Promotes job and process improvement as it relates to the department (through 5S as well as other improvement initiatives).

  • Responds to multiple production assignments in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Overtime may be required, based on business need; regular attendance required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.

  • An associate degree with a focus on electrical or electronics, or no less than two years of related experience strongly preferred.

  • Must be able to pass a written, job related test.

  • Math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.

  • Possess the mathematical skills required to work with conversion factors, formulas and other related functions.

  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Positive communication style, along with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Proficient verbal and written skills which allow for accurate explanations of all situations you are responsible to manage.

  • Possess the ability to react to changes of responsibility throughout the day.

  • Must have the flexibility to respond to multiple assignments.

  • Ability to work any shift, including days, evening, nights, and weekends as determined by Supervisor.

  • Ability to speak, read and write English with technical proficiency.

Ability to pass a “Fit for Duty” physical exam. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Wear the proper personal protective equipment for each task, including, but not limited to, safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, hard hat, dust mask, etc.

  • Climb up and down from equipment; climb up and down a ladder and work at heights up to 40’.

  • Regularly lift and/or move 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds.

  • Ability to reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, or handle objects, tools and controls.

  • Ability to stand, walk and climb stairs regularly.

  • Ability to bend, squat, stoop, kneel or crouch frequently.

  • Ability to talk and/or hear frequently.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors regularly in all elements.
