The Senior Director of Core Infrastructure Engineering is the leader accountable for core infrastructure for the enterprise!

This position is responsible for three core functions - hosting, networking and data management services and the delivery of all third-party and internally managed IT infrastructure used to support the business across those functions. The Core Infrastructure team enables the Technology Product teams by providing fit for purpose infrastructure and network capabilities in alignment with our Technology and Business strategies and Security policies. The role reports to the Vice President of Supply Chain and Infrastructure Solutions and will be part of the Technology Extended Leadership team.

Location: Newport News, VA

May consider Remote for the right individual outside of the Newport News, VA area.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • Sets the mission and vision of the Core Infrastructure team to foster a business-oriented culture and mentality driven by continual service improvement.

  • Leads the development of the Core Infrastructure strategy and roadmap and ensures its integration with the overall Technology strategic plans.

  • Works with the Technology leadership team on the service portfolio and governance required to prioritize resources.

  • Drives the development of the Core Infrastructure technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics to ensure the team delivers is aligned with the technology strategy.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Maintains currency on new technologies and platforms and collaborates on enterprise architecture to set direction on what emerging technologies should be assimilated, integrated and introduced within Core Infrastructure to ensure technology capabilities respond to the needs of the enterprise.

  • Acts as a trusted advisor and builds and maintains relationships with the Technology leadership team and to develop a clear understanding of business needs; ensure cost-effective delivery of technology services to meet those needs and maintains ability to respond with agility to changing business priorities.

  • Develops and controls the annual operating and capital expenditure budget for Core Infrastructure.

  • Participates in the assessment of external and internal technology capabilities required to achieve desired competitive positioning.

  • Champions Core Infrastructure involvement in the IT organization's innovation efforts and its role in experimenting with new solutions to take advantage of business opportunities.

  • Supports the Core Infrastructure sourcing strategy and provides oversight for strategic vendor and partner relationship management

  • Works closely with the CISO and our Security team to ensure SOX compliance and to adhere to all security policies and procedures.

Operational Management

  • Provides leadership, coaching and direction to the Core Infrastructure leadership team and staff.

  • Works with HR and the Technology leadership team to develop a Core Infrastructure "people strategy" that aligns with the Technology strategy.

  • Forecasts future skill needs to acquire and develop a Technology workforce with the appropriate mix of business knowledge, technical skills and competencies that balance between growing the agility required to achieve digital business objectives and ensuring the core technology functions are reliable, stable and efficient.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities, Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience

  • Fifteen (15) years of experience working in the Technology industry including ten (10) years in IT infrastructure leadership positions and Ten (10) years’ managing large scale enterprise Networks

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities of 25 or more highly skilled engineers across infrastructure and engineering teams

  • Provable experience in managing data centers

  • Deep understanding of computer systems characteristics, features and integration capabilities

  • Proven leadership ability instilling confidence and demonstrate the business value of IT

  • In-depth working knowledge of key network, data center and technologies

  • Solid understanding of current and emerging I&O technologies and how other enterprises are employing them

  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate a Core Infrastructure vision that inspires and motivates staff and aligns to the IT and business strategy

  • Effective influencing and negotiation skills in an environment where resources may not be in direct control of this role

  • Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning and execution skills

  • Strong business sense, including industry, domain-specific knowledge of the enterprise and its business units

  • Expertise in budget planning and financial management

  • Success in demonstrating both traditional best practices, such as IT service management practices based on ITIL, as well as emerging methods like DevOps that are optimized for agility

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a strategic people plan that ensures that the right people are in the right roles at the right time and that employees are highly engaged and satisfied

  • Strong vendor management and partner relation skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and technologies to business leaders, and business concepts across the I&O workforce

  • Ability to motivate in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Pay Range:

$11,832.00 - $21,981.00

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.

This role is Bonus or Incentive Plan eligible.
