**A Class-B commercial driver's license is required. This is a part-time position

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES Under general supervision, this position is responsible for operating trolley buses in a safe manner for city events and programs for the purpose of transporting passengers in accordance with the City, State, and Federal laws. Position requires friendly and professional interactions with guides and passengers. Reports to the Tourism Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Safely operates the Newport News trolley bus in accordance with applicable City, State, and Federal regulations and traffic laws. Always Prioritizes passenger safety; ensures appropriate passenger standards of conduct while riding the trolley bus; executes passenger evacuation procedures during emergency situations; assists individuals with disabilities with the wheelchair lift and ensures proper safety measures and restraints in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Serves as a subject matter expert on the city's trolley processes. Serves as a frontline point of contact to uphold the delivery of quality customer service; courteously provides general information to passengers including driving routes, schedules, and destination information. Makes public address announcements in compliance with ADA regulations. Maintains cleanliness throughout the trolley bus before, during and after each shift, to include the driver seating area and the passenger sections of the trolley. Responsible for retrieving and reporting items left behind by passengers, or lost items. Relays information regarding detours, accidents and incidents to supervisor; reports observed safety issues. Conducts and documents a comprehensive pre-trip inspection of the vehicle before each operation. Monitors vehicle conditions to include lights, mirrors and doors, monitors brake pressure, tire conditions, heater, and air conditioner. Immediately reports any mechanical problems and performs and documents a post-trip inspection at the end of each shift. Records passenger counts for each route. Follows City procedures in the event of an accident and files necessary incident or injury reports. Safely and efficiently operate peripheral equipment such as wheelchair lifts, radio, cell phone, iPad, and emergency devices. Assists with the training of new drivers. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE Trolley Bus Operations - Knowledge of the proper procedures for operating, inspecting and maintaining a trolley bus. Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of equipment on public roads. Customer Service - Considerable knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes setting and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of patron satisfaction. Safety - Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to trolley bus operations.

REQUIRED SKILLS Time Management - Plans and organizes daily work routine. Estimates expected time of completion of elements of work and establishes a personal schedule accordingly. Implements work activities in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules. Interpersonal Relationships - Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships with employees, representatives from other departments and organizations, and the public. Judgment and Decision Making Evaluates the best method of research and then exercises appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and resolving complex matters. Considers the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

REQU RED ABILITIES Communication - Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively so others will understand. Ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing. Ability to fluently and clearly speak on a public address (PA) system, as well as read, and understand the English language. Time Management - Plans and organizes daily work routine. Estimates expected time of completion of elements of work and establishes a personal schedule accordingly. Implements work activities in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules. Geography - Ability to use global positioning systems (GPS), maps, basic plans, and diagrams.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Requires a high school diploma and 2 years of experience as a passenger bus or trolley bus operator.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a valid drivers Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement, and an acceptable driving record. Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include weekdays, weekends, holidays, or evenings. Requires an acceptable general background check to include a state and local background check with a sex offender registry. Requires satisfactory results from a pre-employment medical evaluation including pre[[1]employment substance abuse testing and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Tasks require regular sedentary work, with some walking and the performance of moderately physically demanding tasks. Some combination of climbing steps, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and bending. May involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-75 pounds).
