Satellite Services, Inc. Combat-Fire Control, Weapons, Platform Systems Engineer/Technician in Newport, Rhode Island

US Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport, RI, United States | Rhode Island | Full Time

Rite-Solutions, Inc. is seeking Combat Systems/Weapons/Platform Systems Engineer/Technician candidates who will provide direct support to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC). This position is located on-site at NUWCDIVNPT Newport, RI.

Principal duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design system modernization and capabilities expansions to meet emerging Navy needs

  • Analysis for and development of Engineering Change Instructions and Engineering Change Proposals

  • Assess installation and system requirements to determine equipment layout

  • Perform and presentation of gap, fault/failure, and performance analyses

  • Support/perform modeling, simulation and prototyping for enhanced and new systems

  • Provide recommendations for process improvements to existing systems and operational processes

  • Troubleshoot, recommend solutions for maintenance and enhancements to Non Propulsion Submarine/Ship systems including Combat Systems and associated Weapons (Torpedoes, Missiles, Other Payloads) in particular, as well as, Launchers, Sonar, Radar, Periscopes, EW, Navigation systems interfaces at NUWCDIVNPT and/or on-site platforms

  • Conduct test and evaluation and quality assessments for system requirements compliance, interoperability, reliability and cyber invulnerability

  • Develop reports and recommendation papers describing results of analyses, testing and problem investigations

  • Coordinate with Team Lead and work with the engineering team to support upgrades to existing weapon systems to meet data requirements

  • Collect and assess technical data associated with planned, active, and concluded platform Modernization and TEMPALT installation activities, including Pre-Installation Check-Outs (PICOs) and Post-Installation System Operational Verification Tests (SOVTs)

  • Develop, update, and deliver individual and cumulative reports to document the installation activities including status, test results, and issues.

  • Document and present trade studies as to the risks, benefits, feasibility of future systems

  • Develop and Review drawing packages

  • Coordinate and support platform technical data package development and delivery

  • Develop and review test plans, test procedures, and requirements traceability matrices

  • Developing Concept of Operations (CONOPS) documentation, performance specifications, interface documentation, operational procedures

  • Perform and/or support, functional, integration, system, factory acceptance and environmental testing events

  • Develop program status reports such as technical assessments, risk assessments, technical recommendations, or technical information

  • Assess current system capabilities against current and near-term needs and provide technical recommendations to resolve gaps by evaluating and resolving system failure reports, obsolescence and material support issues, and other inputs from the Fleet

    Requirements/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering Discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, etc.) preferred, will consider a BS in STEM fields with sufficient direct Engineering Experience.

  • In lieu of a degree, candidates with significant, demonstrated experience operating one of more of DoD and Navy Non-Propulsion Electronic-Mechanical Systems especially, Combat Control, Weapons (Torpedoes, Missiles, Payloads), Launcher, USW Sensor, Electronic Warfare, Imaging, and/or Radar systems (especially Submarine specific equipment) will be strongly considered.

  • Experience and knowledge associated with engineering functions related to design, troubleshooting, analysis, reporting, and/or testing of aforementioned complex systems

  • Candidates must be able to work independently, collaboratively, and interface regularly with a wide range of client personnel.

  • Proficiency with MS office applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Acrobat and MATLAB.

  • Mentor technical team members and provide direct technical team tasking/scheduling guidance.

  • Support scheduling, funding, and resource needs in conjunction with Program Manager

  • U. S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret security clearance. An active security clearance is preferred.

    Previous Experience in the following elements/technical areas is required:

  • AN/BYG-1, SWFTS architecture, (hardware/software/tactical equipment ) for predecessor, current and future Combat Control Systems; Knowledge of Launcher Systems Equipment; Torpedoes, Missiles, Payload Control/Strike Operations and associated Platform Non-Propulsion Electronics Systems (NPES) equipment

  • Ability for analysis and design/development/debug for Combat Systems, Platform NPES equipment

  • Detailed Knowledge of Submarine Operational Documentation; Ability to Write, Edit, Maintain, especially Submarine Firing Craft Procedures

  • Knowledge of Navy/DoD acquisition processes including, Rapid Prototyping, COTS Insertion, and Spiral Development Processes

  • Knowledge of US Navy Submarine land-based laboratory testing and evaluation environment for Combat Systems and associated interfaces network

  • Combat Systems/Torpedo and Missiles Operations and Functions; NPES testing methodology at the developmental, functional, integration, systems and platform level

  • Basic knowledge of team management, team building, and reporting

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to interface with technical personnel, managers, and customers

  • Experience in building customer relationships and communicating with integrated product teams

  • Experience with process improvement methods, practices, and procedures (i.e., CMMI)
