Actalent Applications Engineer in Niles, Michigan

Description:

The Applications Engineer will be responsible for working directly with customers to create and develop cost/budget, proposals, mechanical descriptions and provide technical follow up for equipment/machines. This role is a support role to the sales team but on a technical level. They will need to be feasibility studies/reports, quote appropriate timing for the project, understand machine function and how metals will behave. A critical part of the position is understanding the level of effort/time the engineering and design will take so they can appropriately provide timelines to customers, as well as orders of magnitude (how much things cost). The role may require the engineer to pull up customer or machine history and evaluate past machines/equipment to go off. When they are not doing the applications aspect of the role, they will be helping with the mechanical design and development of machines.

Day to day responsibilities:

-Engage with the customer through the requirements definition, generating concepts, cost development, and presentation of the proposal

-Develop a defined Proposal that clarifies all customer requirements

-Interact with the sales and management teams to ensure technical alignment

-Present concepts to customers emphasizing competitive advantages

-Assist the internal proposal design team and processes

-Document technical requirements, oversee project plans and project change procedures

-Participate in technical advisory roles, as required

-Interact with Customers at all levels, as required

-Ensure effective handoff to operations for ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting

-Support design and development of mechanical designs
