Job Description:

Perform maintenance and handling on submarine vertical launch system (VLS) equipment and components. Shipboard.

Assists one or more workers in the skilled maintenance trades by performing specific or general duties of lesser skill such as: keeping a worker supplied with materials and tools, cleaning working area, machine, and equipment; assisting journeyman by holding materials or tools; and performing other unskilled tasks as directed by journeyman. The kind of work the helper is permitted to perform varies from trade to trade. In some trades the helper is confined to supplying, lifting, and holding materials and tools, and cleaning working areas and in others, the worker is permitted to perform specialized machine operations, or parts of a trade that are also performed by workers on a full-time basis.

Performs work in one or more of the maintenance trades: carpentry, grinding, sanding, painting, machine and equipment repair, electrical, sheet metal fabrication, and welder support. Other duties maybe assigned.

Shipboard. Should be physically able to move through a ship, shipyard and dry-dock, climbing ladders, and staging, capable of lifting and carrying components up to fifty pounds on submarines and surface ships. Respirator qualification will be required.

Essential Functions:

Perform maintenance and handling on submarine vertical launch system (VLS) equipment and components.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to obtain a Secret security clearance for employment continuation.

  • Must possess a valid driver license.

  • Must be able to obtain clearance for Naval Station access without escort.

  • Must be able to move throughout a navy ship, shipyard, and dry-dock, climbing ladders, and staging.

  • Must be capable of lifting and carrying components up to fifty pounds on submarines and surface ships.

  • Must be able to obtain respirator qualification.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Must be able to comprehend and perform detailed written maintenance procedures under direct supervision.

  • Must be comfortable driving vehicles while towing trailers.

  • Previous forklift operator experiences preferred (not required).
