Childrens Hospital of The King's Daughters Transport Paramedic in Norfolk, Virginia
GENERAL SUMMARY
While working as a member of the Transport Team, the Transport Paramedic provides care to patients in various critical care departments under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Reports to department leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in stabilization care and transport of ill and injured children to CHKD or other designated facilities from referring hospitals.
Responsible for the safe operation of Mobile Intensive Care Units.
Performs technical patient care activities and procedures necessary for stabilization and transport.
Performs other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Current certification in the state of Virginia as an EMT-P with technical proficiency and experience in providing pre-hospital Advance Life Support measures.
Must have a valid Virginia State Operators license with acceptable driving records, and satisfactory completion of either an Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) or Defensive Driving certification.
ACLS and PALS certification required.
CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 3 years of EMS experience required.
Must meet the insurability policy requirements to drive a CHKD vehicle.
Must be able to pass the CHKD driving test within 30 days of employment.
Approximately three to four months on-the-job orientation is necessary in order to gain proficiency in providing a variety of clinical treatments to critically ill infants and children.
Must provide record of a completed diploma (or equivalent) or academic transcript for those areas performing complexity testing.
Increased Security Clearance for job role Required: FBI finger printing, criminal background, educational and personal reference check verification and clearance required for identified job roles.
WORKING CONDITIONS
A variety of patient care environments within the hospital setting. Mobile Intensive Care ambulances and medical aircraft (helicopter and fixed-wing) with some exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, inclement weather and the like. Frequent exposure to communicable disease due to the performance of certain patient care activities.
