Sr. Automation Controls Engineers with Rivian Automotive, LLC in Normal, IL. Design, review, and approve electrical schematics and industrial panels for automation equipment using 480/240/120VAC and 24VDC circuits. Design review and approve Pneumatic hardware selection and circuits that are appropriate for the use case. Develop and review network topologies and IP address allocation, optimizing the equipment for remote accessibility, diagnostics, backups, data collection, and cybersecurity. Write, review, and test PLC logic with an emphasis on code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable. Review and update existing HMIs. Assist with RFQ preparation and review vendor proposals for automation equipment ranging in size from single work cells to entire shops. Enforce application of and guide vendors through proper implementation of Rivian standards. Establish test plans and control test plan execution at vendor sites and at Rivians factory in Normal, IL for various buyoffs including virtual commissioning, safety, FAT, and SAT. Implement MES logic for production and performance management into the PLCs and HMIs. Guide, review, and approve vendors through proper implementation of (ANSI/RIA 15.06/OSHA and ISO 13849 compliant) control reliable safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high-volume manufacturing equipment. Utilize standards, such as the NEC and UL508A to complete designs, including sizing of conductors, overcurrent protection, etc. Assist with Arc flash studies per NFPA70E and perform short circuit current rating analysis. Write and maintain electrical standards, specifications, and procedures covering topics including but not limited to hardware, electrical design, connections, naming, installation, testing/inspection. Approve new hardware for addition to the Approved Component List, to standardize company wide. Use EPLAN to build libraries of electrical and pneumatic macros and templates for approved components. Create programs and tools to automate various steps in the development process. Validate internally developed standards and tools on production-representative lab equipment and virtual simulations.\ \ RQMTS: Masters degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field and 2 years of [or a Bachelors degree or foreign equivalent as stated above or a closely related field and 5 years of] experience in any occupation involving electrical engineering or controls engineering. Experience must include developing electrical schematics using VeSys or AutoCAD Electrical; Electrical Standards NFPA79, National Electric Code, and UL508A; Designing Industrial control panels, SCCR, Wires/cables sizing, other power equipment sizing; and demonstrated experience in project management from design, scope of work, RFP, RFQ, and execution.
