Job Duties

  • Work only under the direct, immediate, personal supervision of a pharmacist
  • Curry containers of drugs in and around the pharmacy
  • Count pills, tablets, and capsules, and put them in containers
  • Type and/or print label
  • Maintain records as they relate to the Pharmacy practice
  • Enter prescriptions, drug orders, and patient information in a patient profile
  • Ring up customers/patients at the Pharmacy register for pickup of their prescriptions
  • Receive prescriptions from patients at the pick-up window
  • Clean the Pharmacy and Front End departments
  • Answer calls and forward to Pharmacist on duty when necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Prohibited Actions

  • Accept or transcribe an oral order or telephone prescription
  • Enter or be in the pharmacy when the Pharmacist is not on duty
  • Perform any act in the practices of Pharmacy that involves discretion of independent professional judgement
  • Perform a duty until the Technician has been trained and the duty has been specified in written protocol

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Medical Assistance Certification (preferred)
  • Medical Terminology

Additional Skills/Competencies

  • 6 months experience in medical office environment
  • Certification for CPR, First Aid, EKG, and/or Phlebotomy
  • Basic understanding of medical procedures and terminology
  • Tact and skill in patient management
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with doctors, patients, and co-workers

     

Physical/Mental Requirements

Sitting, standing, walking, reaching above shoulder length, working with body bent over at waist, working in kneeling position, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, working with arms extended at shoulder length, lifting maximum of 50 lbs.
