Cecil College Admissions Counselor in North East, Maryland

About Us: Founded in 1968 to meet the post-secondary and continuing education needs of Cecil County residents, Cecil College has been serving the community and shaping its future for nearly 50 years. The College is governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor. The College’s fifth president, Dr. Mary Way Bolt, reports directly to the Board of Trustees. Cecil College is centrally located in Maryland’s most northeastern county, just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore, as well as from Wilmington, Delaware. With a diverse student population, Cecil College enrolls approximately 2,500 credit students and 3,400 non-credit students. Cecil offers associate degrees, certificate programs and non-credit classes. Cecil offers a variety of associate degree and certificate programs. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Admissions Counselor is responsible for student recruitment services. These services consist of daily information sessions, visits to local and regional schools, organizations, and other entities, coordinating and representing the College at recruitment events. Additionally, the Admissions Counselor advises prospective students and families about the enrollment process. Furthermore, the Admissions Counselor will function as part of the Admissions front line services and assists with answering phone, email and other communication lines, providing customer service to visitors, and provides assistance to part-time staff when needed. The Admissions Counselor will manage and extract student data from the information system for specific purposes. In as much, the admissions counselor operates fluently in the admissions, inquiry, and registration modules of the student information system. This includes the input, manipulation, and extraction of data in these modules to support the enrollment management efforts of the College. Further, the admissions counselor supports and participates in admissions operations, including the processing of admissions applications and other compliance documents. They will also assist with specialized tasks involving implementation of recruitment and ­­­­­­­­­­­­admissions events and activities. SPECIFIC DUTIES: Admissions & Recruitment • Deliver comprehensive admissions advising to prospective students on college choices, Cecil offerings, and other admissions and college procedures. • Develop and deliver presentations externally to educational partners and businesses regarding Cecil College. • Represent and promote Cecil College at high school visits, college fairs, and other outreach events. • Meet with prospective students and families to discuss the benefits of attending Cecil College and help them understand the enrollment process • In conjunction with team members, continually develop and maintain communications strategies for prospective students. • Respond to e-mails, texts, mail, telephone calls, and in-person meetings that require admissions guidance or counseling. • Plan and execute on-campus, off-campus, and online recruitment events. • Make recommendations related to admissions products and recruitment materials. • Take lead on campus tours for prospective students, families, and large groups. • Coordinate admissions recruitment events and large group tours. (Ex: Open Houses, College For A Day) • Attend and assist with campus wide events such as Graduation and New Student Orientation. Technical Assistance • Define and extract data from the student information system. • Implement year-round communication strategies. Make recommendations for improvement and assure coordination with social media and web-based responsibilities of the department. • Manage the .edu & mycecil pages to keep up to date with the needs of the current prospective student population. • Identify targeted populations in the student information system, extract and create communications, and track and evaluate outcomes. • Process admissions applications, assuring accuracy and consistency within the student information system. • Design a system for extracting data, by demographic indicators, so targeted communications related to events, processes, deadlines, etc. are directed to relevant prospects. • Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design, and strategy. • Utilize various communications channels such as email and text messaging to communicate with current and prospective students. OTHER RELATED DUTIES • Attend related meetings, as appropriate. • Represent Cecil College externally. • Participate in College committees and subcommittees • Other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as counseling, business, education or communications. Experience: 2-3 years of experience required in higher education or a related field with equivalent functions. Fluency in computer operations and experience with an integrated student information system is required. Experience working in social/digital media campaign management and an understanding of the existing social media landscape including new and innovative tools, platforms, and technologies. Skills/Training: Highly technical and complex workload requiring: a. computer proficiency, including word processing, spread-sheeting, and database knowledge; b. excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills; c. problem-solving critical thinking, and research ability; d. strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills; e. ability to function as a team player, striving for excellence in a collaborative environment; and f. evidence of customer service skills that advance student success. Work Schedule:37.5 Hours/ Week. Work schedule varies throughout the year requiring evening, Saturday, and Sunday hours dependent on the needs of outreach events and programs. Due to the need of interaction with students, employees and the college community this position requires in-person presence. When applicable, this position is eligible for telework. Physical Demands: • Transporting and setting up promotional materials. • Capable of lifting 25 pounds. • Walking stairs (some locations don’t have easy access to elevators) • Weather (have to be able to endure hot and cold temperatures during recruitment events.) Work Environment: Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving. Other: Possession of a valid Driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle check. Please note that you will need your own transportation to and from events as the College cannot always guarantee a college vehicle will be available.
