Amazon Robotics System Engineer Intern- Summer 2024 in North Reading, Massachusetts

Description

Working at Amazon Robotics

Are you inspired by invention? Is problem solving through teamwork in your DNA? Do you like the idea of seeing how your work impacts the bigger picture? Answer yes to any of these and you’ll fit right in here at Amazon Robotics. We are a smart team of doers that work passionately to apply cutting edge advances in robotics and software to solve real-world challenges that will transform our customers’ experiences in ways we can’t even image yet. We invent new improvements every day. We are Amazon Robotics and we will give you the tools and support you need to invent with us in ways that are rewarding, fulfilling and fun.

The Robotics Systems Engineer is a key member of the Amazon Robotics deployment team overseeing the installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning of Amazon Robotics equipment within new and existing fulfillment centers. This field engineering-based role requires proven technical skills related to the deployment of robotic equipment including work with mechanical, electrical, networking, and software systems during a deployment. While training is provided on the specific systems that the engineers will be working on a candidate should possess existing knowledge on the basic operations of robotics and networked mechanical and electrical systems prior to taking the position.

A Systems engineer will work as a part of a team of 1-5 engineers supporting an on-site project manager to provide technical oversight on the installation of both third party and Amazon designed robotics equipment. The deployments involve extensive collaboration with third party installers and contracted engineers, construction, hardware, software, IT, and many other partner teams – communication skills with both internal and external partners and customers are a must. As an Amazonian the candidate will be expected to be able to show independent initiative to identify and solve problems in real time during a project and drive continuous improvement projects forward to avoid recurrences.

The robotics systems that the systems engineers will be deploying may be in various phases of a product life cycle. When supporting new products, the candidate will be expected to work to develop process documentation and modify the existing processes in partnership with project and program managers to drive business performance and sustainability. Proven technical understanding, a love of field work, and a keen interest in diving deep into the workings of the many robotics systems that Amazon uses are critical to success in this role.

Project duration can range from a few days to several months and include travel across the US. International work is available for candidates interested in pursuing it.

This role is a 12 week internship to join AR full time (40 hours/week) from May to August 2024. Amazon Robotics co-op opportunities will be based in the Greater Boston Area, in our two state-of-the-art facilities in Westborough and North Reading, MA. Both campuses provide a unique opportunity for interns to have direct access to robotics testing labs and manufacturing facilities.

This position requires 75% travel. Valid US drivers license required.
