Opportunity Overview

The Software Engineering team in North Reading, MA is looking for an experienced Software Engineer with web UI / frontend experience to join our team and help us build a robust Design System from the ground up. The ideal candidate has a passion for learning, developing high quality software, and solving complex problems. The ideal candidate can balance various tasks related to requirements definition and analysis, development, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance. The candidate must be able to interact and collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout all stages of development. This role has some hybrid flexibility however the candidate must be able to work on-site at the North Reading office.

Working on the multi-product, cross-platform Design System for Teradyne’s family of Automatic Test Equipment software, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with the UX team and other UI developers to create and maintain a scalable and reusable component library using modern web front-end technologies (e.g., React).

  • Document Design System guidelines, best practices, and usage instructions for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ensure consistency and quality across all UI components and design patterns.

  • Work with developers and designers to integrate the Design System into existing and new projects.

  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and best practices in web development and Design Systems.

  • Implement tooling and processes to increase UI development productivity using tools such as Storybook and GitHub.

  • Propose performant, reliable, scalable, and learnable web application UI framework(s) for use by product teams.

  • Establish Design System governance and contribution processes in collaboration with product teams.

  • Conduct workshops or training sessions to educate product teams on using the Design System effectively.

    All About You

  • 5+ years of experience developing modern web application UIs

  • Experience developing with Visual Studio, Git, JIRA or similar tools

  • Experience with development lifecycles including Agile

  • Able to clearly express your ideas and concepts both written and verbally

Preferred Experience and Requirements:

  • Experience in building and maintaining Design Systems or component libraries

  • Familiarity with multiple web UI frameworks, including React, and ability to recommend ideal framework for current and future software development

  • Attention to detail and a passion for creating high-quality, user-friendly interfaces

  • Experience collaborating in UX design tools such as Figma

  • Familiarity with one or more open-source Design Systems

  • Understanding of design tokens and theming

  • Familiarity with Atomic design of components and patterns

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices

  • Experience working in the semiconductor test industry is a plus

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering or related field OR equivalent experience.
