UL, LLC Accounting Manager in Northbrook, Illinois

We are looking for an Accounting Manager - Americas who will be responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the close cycle and reporting submissions of multiple UL Solutions entities in the US and Canada. The Manager will have a thorough understanding of US GAAP and will apply the Company’s accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance, mitigate risk, and drive standardization around processes.

You will oversee a team of 3-5 GL accountants and will report to the Senior Accounting Manager - Americas. This position will have a strong partnership and work cross functionally with corporate accounting, legal, treasury, executive management, and multiple finance teams and business leads.

You will contribute to enhancing month-end close procedures through sharing accounting expertise, implementing process improvements, and validating the nature of account balances and activity to ensure accurate financials. You will also be the point person for Internal and External Audit requests related to areas of responsibility.

This role is hybrid and requires being on-site (3) days a week at our Northbrook or Chicago office.

  • Accountable for accurate and timely monthly financials, including month-end reporting packages, for multiple legal entities in the Americas to the Corporate Accounting & Reporting teams.

  • Responsible for overseeing the preparation and review of Entity level US GAAP financial statements and other financial filings and ensuring integrity of UL’s internal management reporting based on US GAAP

  • Review and oversite of timely and high-quality account reconciliations, ensuring that reconciling items are consistently tracked, reviewed, and cleared properly.

  • Preparation of monthly flux analysis, and other ad-hoc reporting.

  • Assist in developing, documenting, and maintaining accounting processes and internal controls for the accounts and entities in their scope.

  • Manage the work of the GL accounting team including oversight, accounting expertise, coaching team members, and providing development opportunities.

  • Streamline, improve and optimize team’s workload and processes.

  • Partner with business units and corporate functions to evaluate accounting impacts of large or unusual transactions.

  • Support various audits including SOX, Internal Audit, and External Audit.

  • Assume other duties and responsibilities required or assigned by management.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required

  • CPA required

  • Public accounting background, preferred

  • Minimum 5 years of total accounting experience, Managerial experience preferred

  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, Outlook and other MS Office applications required

  • Oracle experience a plus

  • Initiative and drive for continuous improvement

  • Experience in a large global company including working with intercompany and foreign currencies

  • Experience working with international teams preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to identify and resolve issues independently

  • Ability to build a high-performance team and manage through change projects

  • Strong GAAP knowledge, analytical, and problem-solving skills

    Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $105,000 to $135,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 20% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
