UL, LLC Global Leave of Absence Manager in Northbrook, Illinois

Reporting to the Director, Global People Services, the Global Leave of Absence (LOA) Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing and enhancing our global leave management processes. This role will take the lead in mapping out our current LOA processes globally, drive standardization when and where possible, and also ensure an exceptional employee experience during this critical “moment that matters”. Both strategic and operational expertise will be crucial in ensuring a seamless and high touch, supportive experience for our employees during their leave periods. Overseeing hundreds of leave cases annually, this role can impact the entire global organization by enhancing the employee experience and engagement through exceptional leave management practices.

This role is hybrid onsite (3) days a week in Northbrook

Strategic Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive global leave management strategy that is both engaging and scalable, balancing our technology with a human touch.

  • Act as the ongoing global process owner for LOA at UL Solutions.

  • Develop and implement a technology roadmap for managing leaves, identifying opportunities to leverage automation and existing HR systems (Oracle HR and ServiceNow), to enhance process efficiency and the leave experience.

  • Conduct a thorough review and analysis of existing leave processes to identify areas for standardization and improvement across all regions.

  • Collaborate with HR colleagues and stakeholders to ensure leave policies and procedures are consistent and compliant with local regulations and best practices.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory/local law changes, and emerging best practices in leave management, ensuring our policies remain competitive and up-to-date.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the leave management function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of leave requests.

  • Determine appropriate staffing model, taking into account global nuances which may require a model that looks different depending on geography.

  • Own and maintain the relationship with our US leaves administration vendor, ensuring optimal service delivery and addressing any issues or concerns promptly.

  • Collaborate closely with Payroll and any third-party administrators to ensure accurate pay during leaves and efficient processing of short-term and long-term disability claims

  • Ensure high-touch support is given to employees throughout their leave journey, so they feel cared for and supported.

  • Maintain knowledge related to global leave processes ensuring all knowledge is current and accurate. Create new knowledge, as needed, to support employees and People Leaders.

  • Develop and monitor clear service level standards of success metrics.

  • Serve as a point of contact for employees and People Leaders, addressing escalations, leave-related inquiries and providing guidance on leave policies and procedures.

  • Monitor and report on leave metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement to enhance the employee experience.

Employee Experience Focus:

  • Champion a culture of empathy and support, ensuring employees feel valued and cared for during their leave periods.

  • Develop and deliver training and communication materials to educate HR colleagues, employees and People Leaders on leave policies and processes, while giving equal focus to the employee experience, setting a bar for how we expect LOA cases to be handled both internally and by any vendor support.

  • Continuously seek feedback from employees and stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve the leave experience.

  • Implement and manage employee satisfaction surveys related to leave management, using feedback to drive enhancements.

  • 8+ years global benefits experience, with significant focus on LOA

  • Must have global experience, working in organizations with a global footprint across 10+ countries

  • Strong program/process management. Experience owning and refining a global benefits program/process preferred

  • Proven track record of process optimization, utilizing right-touch technology and automation

  • Customer-service focused. This role will have heavy interaction with employees. Must enjoy working with and supporting employees.

  • Ability to collaborate across global geographies and stakeholder groups

  • Knowledge of the following regulations: FMLA, ADA, Section 125, COBRA, HIPAA, IRS and FLSA
