BUCKEYE BROADBAND Fiber Splicer 1 in Northwood, Ohio

JOB SUMMARY:

  • The Fiber Splicer I must maintain the knowledge and ability to splice various types of Fiber Optic Cable.
  • The Fiber Splicer I reports directly to Construction Supervisor.
  • There are no direct reports to this position.
  • Upon successful completion of the probationary period, the candidate is required to become a member of the bargaining unit.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The Fiber Splicer I is accountable for:

  • Assisting with the proper splicing of Fiber Optic Cable;
  • Able to identify, work with and construct connectors to include SC, ST, SMA, Biconic and Rotary;
  • Able to identify Fiber binders using the standard color and number code;
  • Familiar with standard practices for the placement of Optical Nodes and Splice enclosures for both aerial and underground applications;
  • Ability to read and understand cut sheets and system prints;
  • Fiber Optic Cable break out preparation;
  • Knowledge of current and past Fiber practices;
  • Ability to identify and splice Single and Multi-mode fiber;
  • Ability to identify the makeup of a fiber optic cable (Sheath, Shield Strength member, false tubes);
  • Ability to identify and use Cleave blocks, Ring cut tools, various hand tools and Express tools;
  • Safely operating all equipment necessary to complete the task of splicing Fiber Optic Cable;
  • Safely operating vehicles and trailers used in performing the job;
  • Properly caring for and maintaining all equipment used in the job;
  • Reporting any unsafe plant, vehicles and/or equipment conditions promptly;
  • Ability to direct the Fiber Splicing crew in the performance of their duties;
  • Reading Cable/Fiber blue prints and splice sheets;
  • Help create an atmosphere of positive teamwork, cultural change, and employee relations;
  • Presenting an acceptable courteous and professional image and have good customer-relations skills with our customers and the general public at all times;
  • Following the Company's policies and procedures, including the EEO guidelines, at all times;
  • Performing other duties as directed by the Construction Supervisor or other designated Company official.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent-Required.
  • Five years of practical work experience in CATV aerial construction and maintenance -- preferred
  • Five years of practical work experience performing Fiber splicing -- preferred
