Chenango County's Department of Behavioral Health Services has an opening for a Mental Health Assistant. This is a position in the Chenango County Community Mental Hygiene Services Department involving responsibility for working directly with mentally ill adult clients who are members of the Departments Psycho-Social Club. Duties include assisting clients with participating in structured group activities designed to develop and improve their social and interpersonal skills, daily living skills and self esteem. Duties also include responsibility for assisting with planning and making arrangements for recreational and educational field trips and other outings, and for accompanying and supervising clients on these trips. An employee in this position may also occasionally be responsible for transporting clients to and from appointments and other locations, and to and from their homes. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Club Manager or another higher level employee. Supervision over the work of others is not normally a responsibility of an employee in this class. Does related work as required.<p> MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EITHER: <li>(A) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; OR <li>(B) One year of full-time paid work experience or its part-time or volunteer equivalent working with the emotionally or mentally challenged.<br> SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: At time of appointment and continuing throughout employment, a candidate/incumbent must possess a valid New York State Drivers License and a driving record acceptable to the Countys insurance carrier.<p> The position has a 40 hour work week and 2024 starting pay rate is $17.11 per hour and includes a full benefits package.<p> No Civil Service examination required for permanent appointment!
